Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosy Rodriguez.
Hi Rosy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Believe it or not, my baking business grew out of an act of desperation and blossomed into the love and passion I have for baking today, three years later. My husband and I were determined to get out of debt shortly after we got married, but his income plus my much smaller income couldn’t knock out the debt fast enough, so I began to look for other ways of bringing in money. With the holidays approaching, I decided to bake and sell thanksgiving pies. Let me tell you: at that time; I didn’t know anything about baking! But I put my ad up on Facebook and sold about a dozen pies, which is a ton for a complete beginner!
After that, I continued baking a few times a week and selling whatever I made fresh that day. Orders quickly picked up and soon I was baking for every diet: gluten-free, trim healthy momma, keto, and others. This helped me to quickly learn a lot about the art of baking! I was really bitten by the “baking bug” because I just couldn’t stop baking. I wanted to make the hardest things, so I dove into artisan and sourdough bread, French Macarons, croissants and fried donuts.
As I gained momentum, I slowly started focusing more and more on Macarons and cake decorating. Through hours of practice and study, I have been able to graduate from an every day baker to a wedding cake decorator. Cake decorating is where I’m most artistically inclined and happy, so that is my main focus today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has by no means been a smooth ride. I have had a few lucky breaks though, for example, I was the go-to baker for the K-State Athletics department for a couple years, so even though I didn’t gain a ton of fame from that, it gave me the professional experience, and then friends who were getting married gave me the opportunity to begin making wedding cakes.
Even though I had these amazing opportunities, I also wanted to quit several times! I would break down in tears from the severe stress of it all. My husband has been an incredible support throughout my journey and I would have given up if he hadn’t helped me through the hard times.
One of the biggest issues that I had in the beginning was time management. I could not figure out how to balance being a wife, mom, and business owner. There was constant stress and guilt weighing on me. It actually took me two years to find flow and balance. That meant I created a schedule for my day where I could spend time with my boys at the park or reading with them before naps and bedtime. It means I started focusing on sharing my knowledge with whoever was curious. I have nothing that is my own. Everything I have, I have learned from others. And the final way I built flow into my life was by “niching down”: I decided to focus all my efforts on cake decorating and a few small desserts.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I believe what sets me apart from other bakers is the flavor of my cakes and buttercream. On my menu, you won’t find every known cake flavor because I focus on perfecting the flavor of the most commonly asked for cakes. I’ve heard time and again from my customers that my cakes and icings are very balanced, not bland and not overpowering! I think that balance is what sets me apart from others.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love collaborations with other small businesses that help bring awareness to their message and their brands! One time I did a collab with a friend who lives in Idaho and sells her own coffee beans. The majority of her business is online, so it’s very important to her growth that people throughout the states can see her products online and then order her delicious coffee.

Rosy makes amazing bakery items. She is so kind and generous, most responsive and helpful. Always a joy to work with. I have used her for desserts needed for a business event picnic and then also for a civic club holiday event that I hosted. Her packaging is very creative and most presentable!! She’s the best!!
