Today we’d like to introduce you to Ritz Chatterjee Dasgupta.
Hi Ritz, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a former global journalist who moved to Kansas City more than a decade ago! From having reported from war fronts to covering general elections, I needed a break from my active news life. But I always knew that I wanted to continue to write. What started as a hobby to write became a full-fledged blogging journey. I had started my space to inspire others, that we always have time for ourselves, for self-care. My blog and my social media spaces share a slice of my mom life+style, affordable fashion, self-care secrets, beauty picks, foodie finds and of course, travel! It is wonderful to see how many wonderful hearts I have touched along the way these years.
I am married to my high school sweetheart who battled a most aggressive form of cancer recently! My journey to Kansas City is courtesy of him being here after we had reconnected! Mom to my rainbow baby girl, who continues to inspire me with her smile. Also, mom to my rescue dog, who I adopted when he was eight weeks ago, and who also battled cancer recently. My friends ask me, how do I do it all with a smile! I tell them I thrive off of good vibes!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am a person of color, and I have had my share of struggles. Therefore I use my space, to reflect my views on Diversity & Inclusion. I am very fortunate to work with an organization that values Diversity & Inclusion, or brands that align with my values.
No road is ever smooth. Starting out as a blogger, then moving onto social media, I was self-taught and translating my skills from journalism. If there’s one thing that is constant in life, that is change. So had to constantly adapt my communication skills to the changing algorithms and trends! In my day job, I am the Director of Marketing Communications for a local nonprofit. Making the move from journalism to marketing communications seemed like the perfect parallel transition. But I believe in continuous learning. So went to school to complete my second master’s in Integrated Communications from the University of Kansas. Managing a human kid, a furry kid, and taking care of my husband as he battled cancer, along with completing a second Master was no way smooth. But hard work and perseverance always pay!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the Director of Marketing Communications at a local nonprofit in the KC metro area. I am a former global journalist. From war fronts to cyclones, I have reported from many situations, which have all taught me a lot! As a nonprofit marketer, I am very proud of the way we pivoted our offerings when the pandemic struck. To be able to re-think how we can still be of value was definitely a challenge I loved.
As a social media storyteller or an influencer, I am very proud of all the lives I touch through my stories. If I can inspire another working mom like myself that she has time in the week to work out or give herself a mani-pedi at home, then I know I am doing my job well! If I can convince a couple that they can rethink a date night during the covid crisis, then I know stories make a difference.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The covid crisis has really taught us to pivot, both in terms of our professional and personal lives! I enjoyed the learning curve as it forced us to literally think beyond the box, prioritize how we are different and how we can continue to provide value.
