Today we’d like to introduce you to Ritchie Cherry.
Hi Ritchie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
As the founder of BOXOUT STRESS, my journey began in E. St. Louis, IL, where I discovered my passion for boxing at 8. Growing up in a challenging environment, I found solace and strength in the sport. After completing my college education, I decided to pursue a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology to help others cope with the hardships they had experienced. Eventually, I went to Kansas City, where I established BOXOUT at Wheatley Elementary School. Recognizing the immense stress and pressure that students face, I wanted to implement a program to provide them with a healthy outlet and support system. In the program’s inaugural year, we achieved remarkable results by reducing office visits for participating students by 80%. Witnessing the positive impact of BOXOUT on students’ lives, I realized the significance of my platform and its ability to bring about change with my personal experience and professional expertise. I am determined to expand the reach of BOXOUT and continue making a difference in the lives of young individuals facing stress and adversity 😊
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While the journey of BOXOUT STRESS has been filled with determination and success, it’s important to acknowledge that it hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like any endeavor, I have faced my fair share of challenges. One of the major obstacles my platform has encountered is securing funding to increase brand awareness and expand our reach to all kids in Kansas City. As with any organization, funding is crucial in sustaining and growing programs. However, I have persevered and sought creative solutions to overcome this challenge, constantly seeking out partnerships and community support to ensure that our mission continues to thrive. Another hurdle we’ve faced is marketing and reaching corporate team-building spaces throughout Kansas City. While the program has shown great effectiveness in schools, extending its benefits to corporate settings requires strategic marketing and outreach efforts. Despite this challenge, I have remained proactive and resourceful, exploring different avenues to engage with corporate entities and showcase how BOXOUT can promote team bonding, stress relief, and overall well-being in the workplace. Throughout these challenges, we have remained resilient and determined to make a difference in the lives of children and individuals facing stress. Our commitment to increasing brand awareness, securing funding, and expanding into corporate spaces demonstrates our unwavering dedication to the mission of BOXOUT STRESS and our desire to impact as many lives as possible positively.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As the Recruitment and Retention Coordinator for the Kansas City Public Schools district, I ensure that the organization attracts and retains talented individuals committed to making a difference in education. I also specialize in creating an environment where employees want to stay and thrive, recognizing the importance of cultivating a positive and supportive workplace culture.
My reputation in Kansas City extends beyond my work in the school district. I am also known for my other business venture, Good Ass Pickles lol, which has become a local sensation. Through my delicious pickles, I have managed to delight the taste buds of Kansas City residents, showcasing my entrepreneurial spirit and culinary expertise.
However, my proudest accomplishment is fathering a wonderful 12-year-old boy (RJ). Being a parent is a role that holds immeasurable value, and my dedication to raising a child reflects my commitment to nurturing and supporting the next generation.
What truly sets me apart from others is my bravery and willingness to vocalize the issues that plague our community. I understand the importance of addressing these challenges head-on, and my courage to speak out demonstrates my commitment to creating positive change. By being a voice for those who may not have one, I contribute to fostering a stronger and more inclusive community.
My multifaceted experiences and passion for making a difference in various aspects of life make me a unique and valuable individual. Whether it’s advocating for a better education system, delighting taste buds with my pickles, or being a dedicated father, I bring a diverse range of skills and perspectives to any table. 😊
What’s next?
My plans for the future are to remain healthy and to continue the legacy of my son and brands. I look forward to one day having my own therapeutic boxing and counseling center. Do you want to know the name of it? I’ll tell you in the future, lol 😂
