Hi Reggie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I launched Let’s Talk Shop KC Podcast in January 2024, inspired by my role as a Fire Department Chief and my passion for creating meaningful change in the Kansas City community. The podcast’s mission is simple yet impactful: changing the community one conversation at a time. It serves as a platform for transformative discussions centered on faith, specifically Jesus Christ, and the profound role He plays in bringing lasting transformation.
The idea was born from observing the daily challenges people in my community face—whether overcoming personal struggles, breaking cycles of violence, or discovering a new purpose. I saw a need for a space where individuals could share their stories and transform them into testimonies that inspire others.
Let’s Talk Shop KC Podcast grew from small mentorship sessions held in barbershops—historic community hubs where honest conversations naturally flourish. These sessions resonated deeply with participants, with many saying, “This is what we’ve been looking for.” However, when sports seasons like football kicked off, attendance dropped. To address this, I transitioned to a podcast format, allowing these meaningful discussions to be recorded and accessed on-demand by those who couldn’t attend in person.
Since then, the podcast has featured diverse guests, from youth leaders and authors to individuals impacted by inner-city challenges. Through open and honest conversations, we tackle problems and solutions, inspiring people to take positive steps in their lives. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m excited to see where it leads next.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Another significant challenge has been building trust with guests. Many individuals featured on the podcast come from rigid backgrounds or have faced personal struggles. Creating a safe and welcoming space for them to share their stories requires patience, empathy, and consistency.
Despite these obstacles, the overwhelming support from the community and witnessing the podcast’s impact have made it all worthwhile.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets Let’s Talk Shop KC apart is its deeply personal connection to the Kansas City community. I was born and raised here—this is my home. I’ve walked the same streets, attended the same schools, and had many of my “firsts” right here. When I speak to the community, I speak to a younger version of myself. Growing up in a fatherless home, I felt the absence of guidance and mentorship that I now strive to provide through the podcast.
As the host, I specialize in fostering authentic conversations that bring about real change. The podcast focuses on stories of resilience, transformation, and hope rooted in faith and believing Jesus Christ can create lasting change. We don’t just discuss problems—we discuss solutions, offering actionable steps to those seeking a better path.
I’m most proud of the podcast’s impact. It has become a platform where people feel seen, heard, and empowered to take the next step. The feedback from listeners and guests reminds me that we are building a stronger community, one story at a time.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success is about making a meaningful and lasting impact on people’s lives. It’s not measured by numbers, recognition, or financial gain but by the lives changed through the podcast.
If even one person listens to a conversation and finds the courage to transform their life or help someone else, that’s a success. My mission is faith-based, and I trust God to guide the rest. Walking in purpose, staying true to the vision, and creating space for change is how I define success.
