Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Murphy.
Hi Rachel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always believed that our surroundings shape our peace. But my journey into professional organizing didn’t start in a perfectly labeled pantry — it started in a moment of chaos.
Years ago, I found myself juggling work, motherhood, and the everyday demands of life, all while feeling like I was constantly chasing time. One day, I looked around and realized my home — the place that was supposed to be my sanctuary — was draining me. That’s when I began to simplify.
I started creating small, practical systems — not to make my home Pinterest-perfect, but to bring calm and control back into my life. That shift changed everything. It gave me back my time, my focus, and my peace. And I knew I had to help others feel that same transformation.
Fast forward to today, ten years later, I’ve had the privilege of working in over a thousand homes and businesses across multiple states, helping people reclaim their spaces and their sanity. My company, Simplify My Life, is more than a business — it’s a movement toward intentional living. We focus on creating systems that work for real people — busy families, overwhelmed moms, entrepreneurs — because organization isn’t about perfection; it’s about freedom.
Whether I’m in a client’s home, creating products like my organizing decks and planners, or speaking to groups about simplifying their lives, my message is always the same:
Progress, not Perfection.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. It’s been a lot of hard work — rewarding work, but hard nonetheless. You know that meme that goes around, “What people think we do vs. what we actually do?” That’s exactly what it’s like in this business.
Helping someone out of their mess and overwhelm isn’t always easy. It’s worth it every single time, but it’s both physically and emotionally demanding. Over the years, I’ve shared a lot of tears with clients — sometimes holding them as they let go of trauma, grieve a relationship, or release memories tied to a loved one. Other times, it’s just pure exhaustion on both sides as we push through the process together. And then there are those tears of joy, when someone finally feels peace in their home for the first time in years — those are the moments that remind me why I do this.
But running a business isn’t just about the time spent with clients. It’s also the late-night hours spent marketing, responding to emails, managing a team, and covering all those unexpected costs that come with being an entrepreneur.
It hasn’t been smooth, but I wouldn’t trade it. Every challenge has taught me something — about business, about people, and about resilience. And seeing lives transform because of the work we do… that makes every long day worth it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The simple answer is… I turn chaos into calm..lol, but here is the long version. I’m a professional organizer and the founder of Simplify My Life, where my team and I help people create systems that bring peace and order back into their homes — and ultimately, their lives.
We specialize in transforming overwhelming spaces into functional, beautiful environments that truly serve the people who live in them. I’ve worked in over a thousand homes and businesses across multiple states, so I’ve seen just about every kind of chaos there is — from overflowing pantries and paper piles to entire homes that need to be reset.
But what really sets us apart isn’t just the organizing — it’s the heart behind it. My approach has always been deeply personal and compassionate. We don’t just come in with bins and labels; we come in with empathy. I believe clutter isn’t the problem — it’s the symptom. There’s always a story underneath it — loss, transitions, exhaustion, perfectionism, or just life happening faster than you can keep up.
That’s why our goal isn’t perfection; it’s peace. We build customized systems that fit real lives — whether that’s an ADHD-friendly setup, a family command center, or a move-in magic experience for newlyweds.
I’m most proud of the moments when clients say things like, “I feel like I can breathe again.” Those words never get old. Watching someone go from overwhelmed to empowered — that’s the best part of my work.
And now, through my book, OVERWHELMED YouTube channel (This Is Where You Start), and our digital organizing tools, I get to reach even more people who might not be ready for in-person help but still want to start their journey toward a simpler, more intentional life.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
There are so many ways to connect with me and be part of the Simplify My Life community.
For clients who are ready to take back control of their homes, we offer in-home organizing services across multiple states. My team and I handle everything from full-home transformations to smaller projects like pantries, closets, and command centers — always with systems designed to last and with the homeowner in mind. It’s not a one-size-fits-all.
For those who prefer to start on their own, we’ve created digital products like my 52-Card Deck for Organization, printable planners, and seasonal challenges that make simplifying your home fun and manageable. These can be found on my website.
If you’re a brand, creator, or fellow business owner, I love collaborations that align with intentional living — whether that’s co-branded products, workshops, podcasts, or joint community projects. I’m especially passionate about working with women-owned and heart-centered businesses that share a mission of helping others live simpler, more intentional lives.
And finally, one of the best ways to support me is simply by sharing the message — follow along on social media, subscribe to my YouTube channel, This Is Where You Start, grab a copy of my book Overwhelmed: Getting Over the Clutter and Chaos, and tell a friend who might need a little hope and help in their home.
Every time someone shares, likes, or tells another mom or friend about what we do, it makes a real difference — if we can help one more mom feel less overwhelmed, or find her way through the chaos, then peace is winning.
