Today we’d like to introduce you to Petty Murphy.
Hi Petty, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born in Kansas City, MO grew up and currently residing in Olathe, KS.
I started my comedy career in Wichita, KS, in 2009, where I was named one of the top 10 Wichita Funniest People in 2009 by The Loony Bin Comedy Club.
From there, my career took off to where I have been able to produce my shows and travel across the country, and open up and perform with comedians such as Hope Flood, the Comedian Will C., Tony Vihn Aaron Westly, Curtis The Mentalist, Clifford Owazu.
To host shows such as Merkules at the Riot Room in 2019 and last year’s all Missouri Music Awards and starts my podcast known as the Petty Murphy Project that is heard worldwide on major platforms like Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Anchor, Google Podcasts, iHeartRadio, Podbean, Spotify and others in 2020.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every road to the top is never easy.
It’s not designed to be that way because when breaking into an industry such as entertainment, it’s hard because the odds of making it big are very slim so you have to learn that in this business as in life you either adapt or perish and in 13 years now doing this I have been able to understand that and have been able to transition and evolve in this business to get where I am at.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a stand-up comedian, podcast host, promoter, producer, brand ambassador, and social influencer. I am proud of being all of that because this was predicted for me. My grandmother, who helped raise me, had a hunch that one of her children or grandchildren would find success in something they love to do and change the world after she passed away in 1996. I always remember that hard work pays off in the end.
She taught me that I would find success in entertainment as she knew. I am proud that I live my dream to entertain people and create opportunities for others to do the same. Still, I am making my grandmother’s premonition become a reality every day. It makes me smile because I know she’s in heaven watching over me with a smile on her face.
What sets me apart from everyone else is that I don’t do this for the money, I don’t do this for popularity, I do this for the people because there’s no Petty Murphy without the people.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Everything in life is a risk, getting in the entertainment business is a risk for anyone wanting to break in. I took that risk not knowing what or where it may lead to but if I didn’t do that then I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the rewards that it has afforded me to have in life.
