Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Burciaga.
Hi Nancy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started in retail a long time ago, I had found my calling! Sales, fashion and fun! It was really great but soon found myself wondering why things had to be done the way they were, why couldn’t we have some input in the store? We couldn’t even dress with the clothing we used to sell! I discovered that big chains have they own way and rules to follow. I always wanted to have my own business so I started “stylish Latina”about 5 years ago. The concept was very simple, I would go hunting to thrift stores and find the best deals, make sure it is in good shape, take it home, clean it and steam it leaving it ready for my costumer without them worrying to do all that. I love it, it was my dream for so long
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
3 years ago I found myself having some family trouble and had to move to Raytown for a while, that’s when I decided to stop with stylish Latina. I did not have room for storage in my new place and couldn’t continue with it. Also, I recently lost my facebook page where I had all my costumers, pictures and memories. I’m trying to rebuilt the community we had. Now I have a new page called Nancy Burciaga, my own name my own brand.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was in a manager in retail for 4 years
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I fell the Latino community is great here in Kansas City. We are always helping out others, it can be raffles, parties or any other thing and people are always willing to support. I have found myself in a group of wonderful women who you can count on.
