Check Out Mindy Hargesheimer’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mindy Hargesheimer.

Mindy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My life “mantra” began around 2012 when my husband and I were still living in downtown Chicago, were at a neighborhood bar, and amidst whatever conversation we were having at the time, it occurred to me that I wanted to live my life like “Every Day Is On My Bucket List.” Ever since then I have lived by this philosophy, knowing we are all aware time is not guaranteed, and every day I want to explore, have fun, learn something new, and live the most “experiential” life I could ask for. Flash forward to October 2017 and I launched @kansascitybucketlist as a passion project/hobby and to start a place to share what hidden gems and incredible things to do in Kansas City. I loved the idea of it being my creative outlet and for others to find inspiration in what new thing to do in their hometown.

As an avid explorer, I love taking every opportunity to experience my surroundings inside and out, and when I can’t travel the globe, I love to travel my way around the city and beyond, crossing each and every destination off my bucket list. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about how I can pursue something new and fulfilling in my surroundings and document it through my love of photos and story telling.

Wife to Dan, and mom to daughters Liv (7) and Elin (4), I journey alone, as well as with my bucket list-loving family; everything from restaurants, coffee shops, breweries and craft cocktails to street art, fashion shows, live music, art exhibits, games and recreation, charitable causes, and the under-appreciated staycation are sought out, experienced, and shared by way of telling my first hand story. I believe the Midwest is a hidden gem, in which I love to learn and share the stories of how our makers and entrepreneurs launched their vision.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has! It hasn’t come without trial and error, critical comments, and questioning whether I am doing it right, BUT when you are as passionate as I am about the mission and journey of this platform, it comes easily, and it comes with confidence and genuine excitement about it every single day. Everyone knows you will never please everyone, but 99% of people who are following my adventures, I believe, are here for the opportunity to find something new and fulfilling to do. It’s also really not about me, it’s about the local businesses, so it’s an incredible way to focus on spotlighting other people and their talents that come by way of their experience available to us, and with that comes great reward!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
To be honest, that’s a question I would love to defer to any of my followers to share! But, if I had to answer, I think it’s the authentic voice and passion that comes through in each post/feature. What you read is what you get in how I actually talk in my real life (cue the bad jokes and puns); I truly talk from the heart. I post nearly daily, almost every post has the max of 10 photos and/or videos, as I really want to give an in depth look into what the reader can expect with their own experience, all while not necessarily giving it all away. And, every feature is the equivalent of a blog post (multi-paragraphs lol); whether you are a picture book or novel kinda guy, both are available to give you what you want! My absolute favorite content is the hidden city gems you must try and the vibrant city culture you must see and savor.

What does success mean to you?
Success for me boils down to living my best, most fun life with my family and friends. I feel most successful when I am helping others around me grow, expand their horizons, educate themselves further on different cultures, people, and things to do, and telling the story well about local business owners who are giving us their life’s dream product or service. Wisdom will eventually tell you that life doesn’t get easier, but experiencing the world around you in as many ways as you are able 100% makes life more fulfilling, and that to me feels like success. Never stop exploring and never stop learning about others because we are all creating our own legacy one way or another!
