Check Out Michael Joiner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Joiner.

Hi Michael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 1988 I was living in Hollywood, CA working small parts in films. I got cast as Bruce Willi’s full-time photo double and asked him for advice as an actor. He said, “Do as much theater as you can..” So I moved back home to Indiana and started working in theater in the Chicago area. I also started doing stand-up comedy. I met my wife doing a show at her church in Raytown, MO, in 1994. I moved to Kansas City and continued to work as a comedian as we started our family. In 2001, we packed up and moved back to Hollywood, where I could study acting and, more seriously, pursue acting in film and TV. After landing over two dozen roles and studying with some of the best acting coaches in LA, we moved our family back home to Kansas City because of the economic drip in 2008. I soon found myself landing lead roles in major films from here. I continued working as a comedian and started my own film company. In 2018 I signed with Larry The Cable Guy’s “GitRDone” Records label. That led to me signing with the biggest Cruise Ship agent in the world, Don Casino, who has kept me working steadily on the cruise ship circuit as a comedian.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No! It’s been tough. But all struggles have been rewarding. These days the competition is fierce as everyone, and their mother thinks they are a comedian if they so much as go to one open mic. But I have accepted the challenge of standing out above the fray.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
My comedy can appeal to a broad scope of audiences. As a comedian, my style is clean, cutting-edge sarcasm. As an actor, I am most proud of my first theatre-released starring role, Sony Picture “The Grace Card,” where I garnered rave reviews in both the Hollywood Reporter and Variety.

What’s next?
When not performing on a cruise, I am in my cabin writing scripts that I plan to produce and direct and act on myself.
