Hi Melissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey as an artist truly began in my DNA. Growing up in a family where creativity was a shared heritage, I realized early on that my passion for art was as much a part of me as my own reflection. This innate spark eventually grew into a deep-seated conviction as I began to hone my craft and recognize the impact of my work.
Once I embraced my natural talent and saw the joy it brought to others, my path became clear. What started as a personal passion soon blossomed into a professional calling. From those first few projects, word of mouth spread, leading to a consistent stream of diverse commissions and large-scale murals. Today, The Mural Artist Studio stands as a testament to that evolution—a blend of lifelong instinct and dedicated professional growth that allows me to transform spaces every single day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey for The Mural Artist Studio has required resilience to overcome competition and the challenge of proving professional value in a market often focused on low rates. Versatility in painting styles, from photorealism to abstract branding, allows the studio to remain competitive and innovative and puts me ahead of my competition.

Melissa Feris and The Mural Artist Studio specialize in large-scale, hand-painted murals, transforming commercial and public spaces across Kansas City since 1999. Known for extreme versatility in styles ranging from realism to graffiti and a dedication to durability, the studio has created lasting landmarks for major clients and the local community.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson is art has ups and downs and you have to ride out the highs and lows and stay consistent. Every mural I paint, I become a better artist.
