Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary McCawley
Hi Mary, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The journey of Digital Dreams began with a passion for art and a fascination with the evolving world of technology. I’ve always believed that art has the power to connect people, evoke emotions, and spark conversations. At the same time, I’ve been intrigued by how technology, particularly digital platforms and blockchain, can expand the reach and impact of art.
The idea for Digital Dreams started to take shape when I noticed a gap in Kansas City for a space dedicated to showcasing digital art and NFTs. I wanted to create a place where artists could explore the intersection of art and technology, and where people could experience art in new and innovative ways. So, I took the leap and founded Kansas City’s first digital art gallery, aiming to push the boundaries of how art is presented and appreciated.
Since then, we’ve grown from a concept into a vibrant community hub that celebrates creativity, technology, and collaboration. We’ve hosted numerous exhibitions, partnered with talented artists, and explored various themes.
Through dedication, support from the community, and a bit of grit, we’ve been able to create a unique space where art and technology come together in exciting ways. I’m incredibly proud of what Digital Dreams has become and am thrilled to see where this journey takes us next.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been quite an adventure, and like any journey worth taking, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Starting Digital Dreams was a big leap into the unknown, and there were certainly challenges along the way.
When I first started, there was a lot of skepticism and misunderstanding about what digital art could be and how NFTs work. It took time to build awareness and show people the incredible possibilities that come with merging art and technology.
Another challenge was securing funding and resources. As a new and niche concept, it was sometimes difficult to find financial support and partnerships. But I was determined to push forward, and through perseverance, creativity, and community support, I was able to secure a grant that helped me open my first physical space.
There were also moments of self-doubt and uncertainty about whether I was on the right path. But each challenge taught me something valuable and strengthened my resolve to make Digital Dreams a success. I’ve been fortunate to have an amazing community of artists, collaborators, and supporters who believe in this vision and have helped us overcome these obstacles.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m excited to share a bit about my work as a creative! At the heart of what I do is a passion for blending art and technology. As the founder of Digital Dreams, I focus on curating and showcasing digital art, NFTs, and immersive experiences that push the boundaries of traditional art forms.
Specialization and Work:
My work specializes in creating spaces where digital art can be experienced in innovative ways. I’m particularly passionate about using technology to make art more accessible and engaging for diverse audiences. I also love exploring themes that merge traditional and physical art and the impact of the internet on creativity.
What I’m Known For:
I’m known for championing digital art and fostering a community that embraces both established and emerging artists. Digital Dreams is recognized as a pioneer in Kansas City for showcasing NFTs and digital art, and I am proud to offer a platform for artists to explore new media and share their work with the world.
Proudest Achievements:
One of my proudest achievements is creating a physical space where artists and audiences can connect in meaningful ways. I’m also proud of the exhibitions I’ve hosted, especially the laser show I curated in March this year at the Arvim Gottlieb Planetarium at Union Station. That show sold out for both of it’s show time, ands was an amazing piece of work By Laser Lew. Creating these experiences to which have then sparked conversations and inspired people to think differently about art and technology is pure joy.
What Sets Me Apart:
I think what sets me apart is my dedication to innovation and my commitment to building a supportive and inclusive community. I’m always looking for new ways to integrate technology with art, and I strive to create an environment where creativity can thrive without boundaries. My background in both the art world and technology gives me a unique perspective that I bring to every project.
I’m most proud of the community I’ve built at Digital Dreams and the way we’ve been able to bring people together to celebrate creativity in the digital age. It’s incredibly rewarding to see artists grow and audiences become more engaged and curious about the potential of digital art.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The Creative Act: A Way of Being. By Rick Rubin. This book is full of wisdom, insight, advice and it is even better in the audio version. I have learned over time to really listen to my intuition. I do a lot of grounding (touching grass) and make time to meditate and journal.
