Check Out Lyndsey Baldwin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyndsey Baldwin.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was in middle school, my father bought me a camera for my birthday. I spent most of my earned money buying film and paying to get it developed. My favorite thing to do was create photo albums and scrapbooks with pictures; my rooms and lockers full of photo collages. From there, my love for photography grew, and I was always looking forward to upgrading my cameras and learning more.

After I graduated high school, I attended college in Southern California, where I received my degree in Arts-Photography. While living there, I also interned with a local photographer, where I learned all about wedding photography. She significantly shaped my career and is someone I still mentor to this day. When I returned to Missouri in 2009, I officially started my photography business. Since then, I have grown as a photographer, loving and learning about my city and other local businesses. It is so fun to network among other photographers and support local while using my passion as a way to spread the word about other entrepreneurs, event spaces, and couples.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For me, the biggest struggle I have faced is breaking out of my shell and getting to know the community of entrepreneurs in Kansas City. Not having grown up here, it took me a while to begin networking and attending events to get to know other professionals in my field. The past few years, I have been able to make new connections, grow my confidence, and use social media as a platform to get more involved with my community. I have also started a podcast which has presented multiple opportunities for me to meet new people.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I began my business in wedding photography. Over the years, I have expanded my skills in this area by photographing more destination weddings and elopements. To travel and create art across the world is exhilarating, and I am excited to continue to grow that part of my photography in years to come.

An additional specialty in Portraits has allowed me to develop a creative outlet by incorporating varieties such as branding, boudoir and modeling. Recently, I traveled to Utah with the Kansas City Fashion week team and was blown away by the talent I witnessed; having the honor to engage with models, boutiques, and artists in their element, and being able to capture it as a whole was an amazing experience for my photography career.

I take pride in my recent development of Self-Love portraits, which are primarily done at my in-home studio. Captured mainly in black and white, these sessions offer a balance between professional portraits and boudoir – allowing my subjects to be raw and confident in themselves. I love boudoir photography and being able to offer a safe space for women and couples to feel confident and sexy. Furthermore, I would say my Self-Love portraits set me apart from others by offering an appreciation for individuals with a deeper and more creative flare, which is something that I feel is very unique.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
It is important to me to be an entrepreneur who helps build others up and is committed to being involved in the community. I take pride in being a business owner in Kansas City and welcome the chance to work with those who share that same value. My specialty in branding photography offers me a chance to collaborate with local entrepreneurs and influencers by helping them showcase their passion. I aspire to grow among other leaders so I am always looking for ways to highlight other businesses and the causes they support through my photography.
