Today we’d like to introduce you to Los Del KCanton.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Los Del KCanton began as a simple jam session in July 2023 between Jorge (lead vocalist and bajo quinto), Tony (vocalist and bassist), and Rulis (accordionist). That first get together revealed not only musical chemistry but also a shared dream to bring people together through music and build something bigger than themselves. By January 2024, the group welcomed two more members: Yairt on drums and Luis on congas. The final lineup was solidified by April 2024, forming the Norteño Cumbia machine fans know today.

The name Los Del KCanton is a heartfelt nod to home. All five members are Kansas City natives, and the name combines “KC” for Kansas City with “Canton,” the Spanish word for home. For the band, it’s not just about making music, it’s about staying rooted in the place that shaped them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth, but every bump has helped shape who we are. As a young band in a scene where older, more established groups often get the spotlight, we’ve had to work twice as hard just to be noticed. In the beginning, we were often underestimated or overlooked, but that only pushed us to keep improving our sound and our stage presence.

Another challenge has been balancing our personal lives with our passion. Most of us are either in school or working during the week, and we dedicate our weekend and most of our free time to the band. It’s a grind, and it can be exhausting, but we love it. We love the process, and we believe in what we’re building together.

Despite the struggles, the thing we’re most proud of is how we’ve stayed united. Through the highs and lows, we’ve stayed grounded and focused on our shared dream, making music that brings people joy.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Los Del KCanton is a Norteño Cumbia group based out of Kansas City. Our music blends tradition with creativity—we honor the classic sounds of Norteño and Cumbia while also bringing our own influences into the mix. You’ll hear jazz-inspired chords, soulful arrangements, and a mysterious, intimate tone that makes our music stand out. Our debut album KCuentos reflects this identity; it’s full of heart, experimentation, and storytelling.

We’re most proud of the way we’ve been able to connect with people. Whether it’s playing backyard parties, fundraisers, or shows out of town, we’re not just performing, we’re building a community. People sing with us, dance with us, and many times, share their stories with us after the show. That’s what we live for.

What sets us apart is our purpose. We’re not just a group of musicians, we’re a brotherhood with deep roots in our hometown. Everything we do is grounded in love for our culture, our people, and our city. We’re young, hungry, and determined to make noise in our own way without losing who we are.

We just want to say thank you to everyone who has supported us. Whether that’s by booking us, sharing our music, singing along at shows, or just showing love on social media. Every bit of support means the world to us. We’re just five kids from Kansas City trying to chase a dream, and we hope our story reminds others that it’s possible no matter where you come from.
