Check Out Lindsay O’Reilly’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay O’Reilly.

Hi Lindsay, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a dietitian for over 20 years starting my career in community nutrition. I always wanted to do something in the medical field helping others.
Back in 2017, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at an annual appointment with my primary care provider. They left me a message to pick up my medication at the pharmacy and come back for more blood work in 6 weeks. No other explanation or information was given. So, I decided to do my own research around thyroid health and see what I could do using my background in nutrition. I read books, listened to podcasts and it led me to functional medicine. From there I did a training and opened my private practice, Lindsay O’Reilly Nutrition, the following year. Eventually I decided to focus on thyroid health – hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s disease. I feel like it’s an area where there is a lack of information and appropriate care in conventional medicine. It’s been my passion to educate and empower others going through the same thing, especially women, who are mostly affected.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I didn’t get any business training in school so I’ve had to learn a lot of that on my own or from trainings. As a private practice owner, you are responsible for all the things – marketing, sales, copy, billing, and providing services to clients. The landscape of this field has changed as well, especially for private practices.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a registered dietitian specializing in thyroid health through a functional nutrition approach. Through my private practice, Lindsay O’Reilly Nutrition, I help women struggling with thyroid issues, fatigue, brain fog, digestive problems, and other stubborn symptoms that haven’t improved with conventional care. I utilize both blood work and functional labs to help uncover root causes and personalize nutrition and lifestyle recommendations. It’s like putting puzzle pieces together and some of the puzzles are really complicated! I also have a podcast, Thyroid Health Matters, where I can share helpful information in a different form, which I love. I think what sets me apart is that I truly want what’s best for my client and really take the time to think that through and don’t just push unnecessary things like tests and supplements.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I definitely think luck has been on my side in a few instances throughout my life and career. I was extremely lucky to get into a really great internship at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota out of college. It was such a great experience. I’m also very lucky to have met my husband, Dan, and have his support in everything I do personally and professionally, which made it possible to start my private practice.
