Check Out Leah Gray’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Gray

Hi Leah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Lucky Gal with my mom, my best friend in the world, in October of 2023 on complete accident. We were spending our Saturday together, as we always did, when I suggested we run to Hobby Lobby to make charm necklaces together. After $238 later, we headed home to make our jewels but my mom said she wasn’t feeling well and we could do it the following weekend. We found out that Monday that she had stage 4 Angiosarcoma – a rare form of blood cancer. With all these extra charms, my mom encouraged me to make a few for my friends and Lucky Gal was born.

6 months later, my mom lost her short but mighty battle with cancer. It is and always will be the most devastating loss of my life, but through Lucky Gal, I’m able to create & connect with women, in honor of my mom. I aim to help women feel their best being their most authentic selves, and being able to celebrate and express exactly who they are, despite the hardships they face in life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No! I had never made a piece of jewelry in my life! I was using my dad’s needle nose pliers from the garage the first time I attempted a piece. (This still makes me laugh to think about.) All of this was new to me – as I said, this was a complete (and happy!) accident. I had to learn to set up a website, what vendors to use, the best kinds of materials, what my audience responded too, etc., all while trying to grieve the loss of my mom. It was a lot!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m most known for being Kansas City’s first charm necklace pop up + virtual custom charm necklace creator, but more important to me, I’m out to create a community of women that want to feel their best being exactly who they are! Expressing themselves through what they want to wear, create, etc. I’m just really proud of myself for staying true to who I am, and having my brand reflect that. It’s taken me a long time to feel confident in my own skin, and my mom did a really wonderful job encouraging me to be me.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m an avid reader and digester of all sorts of media – I LOVE magazines & pinterest! I follow a lot of social media influencers that spark creativity in me.
