Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Nsoh-Awasom.
Hi Laura, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Atielah Fashion was founded in 2022 with a simple goal: to create clothing that honors African heritage while fitting seamlessly into modern, everyday life. Growing up, I noticed that culturally inspired fashion was often reserved for special occasions, leaving little space for pieces that felt both meaningful and wearable day to day.
I launched Atielah as a self-funded brand, designing small collections that blend African aesthetics with contemporary silhouettes and comfort. Each piece is created with intention to help women feel confident, grounded, and expressive without sacrificing ease.
Today, Atielah Fashion continues to grow through limited releases, community connections, and regional collaborations, with a focus on building a recognizable brand that celebrates culture in a way that feels modern, accessible, and authentic.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but it’s been a meaningful one. Like many independent designers, some of the biggest challenges have been navigating limited resources, building visibility without a large budget, and balancing creativity with the realities of running a business.
Learning how to manage production, marketing, and growth simultaneously as a small, self-funded brand has required patience and adaptability. However, those challenges have also strengthened my clarity as a designer and business owner. Each obstacle has helped refine Atielah Fashion’s direction and reinforced the importance of intentional growth, community connection, and staying true to the brand’s purpose
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Atielah Fashion specializes in culturally inspired, everyday womenswear that blends African heritage with modern design and comfort. My work focuses on creating elevated yet wearable pieces that feel intentional but effortless, allowing women to express identity and confidence in their daily lives.
The brand is known for its thoughtful silhouettes, subtle cultural details, and an emphasis on comfort without sacrificing style. Rather than designing for trends or special occasions alone, Atielah Fashion centers on versatility and longevity, creating pieces that can move seamlessly from work to events to everyday wear.
What I am most proud of is building a brand that resonates with women who see themselves reflected in the designs. Atielah stands apart by offering culturally rooted fashion that feels accessible and modern, bridging tradition and contemporary life in a way that feels authentic rather than performative.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m drawn to resources that support both creativity and clarity. Platforms like Pinterest and Instagram help with visual inspiration and staying connected to global fashion conversations, while tools such as Canva and Shopify allow me to organize ideas and bring concepts to life.
Beyond digital tools, I place a lot of value on attending networking events, fashion gatherings, and creative meetups. Being in community with other creatives and entrepreneurs keeps me inspired, grounded, and open to collaboration. I also enjoy books and podcasts focused on intentional living, faith, and entrepreneurship, which help me stay balanced while building my brand.
