Check Out Kiara Howard’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Howard

Kiara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since I can remember, my mission has always been to help those around me and be an
innovative problem solver to whatever might come my way. I started to really connect with my
passion for helping others when I attended K-State University and then moved forward into the
healthcare management field. It was an influential, impactful, and educational time in my life.
In 2017, I started my career with Lutz Plumbing Inc., a woman-run, family-owned plumbing
company that has been in business for over 100 years. I saw their dedication to customer
service and satisfaction and knew I could help make a positive impact on our KC community. My
title as Business Manager/Marketing has allowed me to connect with clients, solve problems,
and make a positive impact on homeowners, businesses and my co-workers.
My passion continues in every aspect of my life as I work closely within my community, including advocating for single mothers. I do everything I can to help other women feel
empowered not only in their careers but also in their lives. When there is an opportunity to pick
someone up, I am right there by their side to provide support, guidance, and aid when possible.
We only prosper as a society when we work together to make it better.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Many of the challenges I have faced throughout my career and contributions revolve around
being a woman in a male-dominated space. We see it all too often that women are not taken
seriously in industries such as plumbing, but at the end of the day, we have full right to be here
and oftentimes can make a bigger difference than we expect. I want to pave the way for other
women like myself who want to enter male-dominated fields and show them that it is possible
with hard work and dedication.

Additionally, I am constantly working on myself and acknowledging my self-worth. It is
something I still work on to this day, but as I continue to grow and better myself, I know that I
can better help those around me. True growth starts within.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I oversee day-to-day office activities, business accounting and manage marketing. I wear a lot of hats at my company, but that’s what makes working in this industry so interesting. I specialize in customer relations and innovative marketing. I’m most proud of being an inspiration to women and my commitment to my community. I would say the number one thing that sets me apart is my passion and commitment to a male dominated industry!

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Sometimes feels like I have to prove myself of being Worthy enough. Not only
Being a woman in a male dominated industry but being in management. My biggest risk is leaving the healthcare care and going into a male dominated workplace. Navigating the responsibilities of a typical management role while also
potentially facing unique challenges related to racial representation in a
leadership position, including potential microaggressions, increased pressure
to prove competence, and the need to advocate for diversity and inclusion
within the workplace.
