Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiana Hubbard.
Hi Kiana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello! I’m Kiana, and I’ve been an art enthusiast for as long as I can remember. My mom was always stocked up on craft supplies, so my creativity was constantly flowing! I think I knew from a young age that I’d find a way to make art a big part of my life. Over the last 5 years, I’ve really dove head first into building up my business and growing my name in the art world. I am a jack of all trades making jewelry, sculpting clay, digital art and more. But my all time love will always be a good canvas and paintbrush. My business name comes from my name obviously, but also inspired by my all time favorite movie ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’ this movie is about a young girl starting her life and dealing with the challenges that are thrown her way. There’s a quote in the movie that is has stuck with me anytime I’m going through an artist block or a tough time in general; “We each need to find our own inspiration, Kiki. Sometimes it’s not easy. Stop trying. Take long walks. Look at scenery. Doze off at noon. Don’t even think about flying. And then, pretty soon, you’ll be flying again”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think anyone can ever say they’ve had a completely smooth journey while trying to reach their goals. As I’ve made my way through life trying to sell my art, the biggest issue is finding those new potential clients. My friends and family are some of my absolute biggest supporters and are where a lot of my pieces end up. I would not be as far as I am without them and my husband supporting me every step of the way. Especially when I decide I want to try a new artsy hobby.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have worked for the last 10 years in some sort of caregiving field. Whether it was nannying, 1:1 caregiving, ABA, behavioral health or working with children/adults with IDD (which is what I do now). I work for a company called Life Unlimited supporting adults with IDD to live their every day life. My job title is a Health Coordinator so my daily job consists more of the health items. Such as calling and scheduling annual and any needed appointments and transporting them to these appointments. It also means I deal with a lot of paperwork and filing documents. Although, getting to make those relationships with each of my individuals is what makes up for the stacks of paperwork and makes my job so special. I love helping and caring for others and have since I was young. Eventually, I want to combine my love for working in this field with my love for art and dive into something such as art therapy but with a twist, just not sure what that twist will be yet.
What matters most to you?
The first most important thing that obviously comes to my brain is my family. I wouldn’t be where I am without my family, in-laws, friends and my incredible husband. But, when I think harder, something that matters the most to me is making sure that the people around me feel loved and supported. Whether it is my best friend or a stranger I just met, I would give them the shirt off my back if they needed it. I always hold the door for others, give a smile or help when no one else is. I think people in this world are too focused on themselves and not so much each other. When we were meant to thrive together and live life side by side and enjoying it and lifting others up.
