Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaycie Lee.

Hi Kaycie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew to have a passion for makeup when I was living in New York City as a professional dancer. As performers, we did not have Makeup Artists to assist us with our stage makeup on a nightly basis. Between Youtube tutorials and taking classes from some of the biggest names in the industry, soon that passion for cosmetics quickly became an obsession. Upon moving home to Kansas City, I began working in the corporate world, in addition to teaching dance professionally. However, my corporate career ended when I was laid off in 2020 due to the Corona Virus Pandemic. That was a life-changing moment and it is when I developed my own brand and business, KC Face Cosmetics. Growing up, I saw my mother own and operate her own full-time business. She created a life and career she loves by simply taking charge of her future and becoming her own boss. My mother has always pushed me to do the things in life that light my heart on fire. Any for me, without a doubt, that is makeup. I’ve built a brand within my community that is not based on changing your appearance with a layer of makeup but bringing your soul to the surface and showcasing the inner beauty of people through the power of cosmetics.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Although this has been an incredible journey, there has been many obstacles and challenges. Starting a business where you are touching client’s faces…in the middle of a pandemic…hasn’t been easy. However, I knew that if I did not start at that moment, I would never do it. It was a goal to start my business completely self-funded without going into debt. I am proud to say I have accomplished this goal. During the second wave of the pandemic, I was obviously not booking clients as frequently but still needed a way to pay the bills during these challenging times. That is when I created my lip gloss line Kisses by KC created by KC Face Cosmetics. I went as far as manufacturing these products in my own home to cut the middle man out. During this process, I have gained so much knowledge of what it takes to own and operate my own cosmetic line. I can’t wait to look back years from now with a huge brand and reflect on the journey and show with hard work, anything is possible.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a Makeup Artist, I wear many hats in order to provide a variety of services to my clients. From airbrushing techniques to a normal makeup application, KC Face Cosmetics has taken part in some of the biggest days in my client’s life. From weddings to fashion shows, pageant coaching, and even family photos, I am always honored that clients choose me to play a small role in these monumental moments. This is why I take such pride in providing a relaxing, fun and glamorized experience for my clients.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe luck has played a role in the success of my business. The success comes as a result of hard work, dedication, and a true passion for what I do.
