Check Out Jules Perkovic’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jules Perkovic.

Hi Jules, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Absolutely! My story with balloons began back in 2008 when I was a street performer — working as a magician’s assistant, caricature artist, and balloon twister. I loved the instant joy that came from making people smile, whether it was pulling a rabbit from a hat or twisting a balloon into something magical.

Before long, I realized balloons were my true creative spark. I could make anything — from simple animals to massive sculptures that stopped people in their tracks. That passion eventually grew into Party Perks, which I launched in 2014. What started as a one-woman show quickly evolved into a full event service company with a talented team of balloon twisters and face painters who help bring color and fun to parties all around the Greater St. Louis area, while I focus on my true passion: creating luxury balloon décor and large-scale installations.

These days, Party Perks is known for transforming spaces into experiences — think 40-foot dragons, 9-foot ice cream cones, and custom balloon designs that match company logos or event themes perfectly. I’ve even had the honor of working alongside some of the top balloon artists in the world, including contributing to The Balloon Story in NYC — a record-breaking installation featuring over 700,000 balloons!

Every project still fills me with the same excitement I felt almost 20 years ago. Only now, instead of twisting a single balloon, I get to design entire worlds out of them — bringing joy, color, and wow moments wherever Party Perks goes!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh, definitely not a smooth road — but I’ve learned that even the bumps can be beautiful when you’re in the business of balloons!

When Covid hit, it was absolutely devastating for my company. Overnight, our entire calendar cleared and we lost 11 of our 12 entertainers — face painters, balloon twisters, and caricature artists. Instead of deflating (pun intended!), I decided to pivot. I began freelancing across the country, working with balloon artists who were thriving despite the shutdowns. That experience was truly transformative. I got to learn from industry giants, collaborate on massive, high-end installations, and bring all those new skills and inspiration back home to St. Louis.

The biggest struggle since then has been awareness — it’s funny, I’ve been hired to create balloon installations from coast to coast, but in my own backyard, many people still don’t realize Party Perks is right here in the Greater St. Louis area! That’s a big focus for me now: continuing to grow local visibility while serving both private and corporate clients who value artistry and creativity.

Rebuilding after the pandemic was no small task, but I’ve now reassembled a talented, trusted team of face painters and balloon twisters to keep the fun alive while I focus on luxury décor and large-scale installations. Every challenge has helped shape Party Perks into what it is today — strong, creative, and filled with heart.

And honestly, those struggles have only made me more passionate and determined to keep growing, sharing joy, and putting St. Louis on the map for truly unforgettable balloon art.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Party Perks, we turn ordinary spaces into extraordinary experiences — all through the magic of balloons! I specialize in custom, luxury balloon décor for events of all kinds — from corporate galas and brand activations to graduations, weddings, and community celebrations.

Over the years, I’ve had the joy of creating some massive installations, like a 40-foot spider spinning an 80-foot web, 20-foot St. Bernard balloon sculptures, and even participating in a 100,000-balloon drop at the Democratic National Convention. I’ve also been honored to design eye-catching graduation displays for Princeton University, which felt like such a full-circle moment for a small-town balloon artist from Missouri!

What I’m most proud of is how every project blends artistry, engineering, and emotion. My background as a decotwister means I can sculpt practically anything out of balloons — but for me, it’s not just about size, it’s about storytelling. Whether I’m matching corporate branding perfectly or bringing a client’s wildest vision to life, each design is created to make people feel something.

What sets Party Perks apart is our creativity, professionalism, and heart. I’ve rebuilt an incredible team of balloon twisters, face painters, and a production crew who help bring our large-scale installations to life and continue to spread smiles across the Greater St. Louis area.

Together, we bring the fun, the wow, and the heart to every celebration — because balloons aren’t just decorations… they’re joy, connection, and a little bit of magic wrapped in color.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success isn’t about how many balloons I inflate or how many events I book — it’s about being happy at the end of the day. If I can look back after a long install, covered in confetti and maybe a little balloon dust, and still feel proud, fulfilled, and grateful… that’s success.

I measure success by smiles — my clients’, my team’s, and my own. Of course, I have business goals and milestones, but true success is when the work I do brings joy — to the people who see it, to the team that helped create it, and to me for doing what I love every single day.

At the end of the day, if I’m tired but happy, surrounded by color and laughter, I know I’ve done exactly what I was meant to do.
