Check Out Jill Tilton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Tilton.

Hi Jill, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I have always been interested in the arts. I studied music in college and was a creative director for a global company grown and headquartered in Kansas City before leaving to stay at home with my son.

After years of assisting friends and family with interior design, I decided to launch my own boutique interior styling business in March of 2019 and create a curated home by Jill Tilton Instagram for interior design inspiration and all things happy!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am grateful that it has been a satisfying and sustainable creative outlet. I believe it’s due in part to my experience as a corporate graphic designer and marketer. I also have the great pleasure of working with clients who are more like partners and friends.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Interior and graphic design have always felt natural to me and I have a great appreciation for the visual arts. Working on a design composition is the best kind of “visual puzzle” with so many fun variables (textures, scales, colors, patterns, personalities, etc)!

I view each project as a partnership and collaboration. Some project partners don’t know where to begin or feel overwhelmed, but they know they want something different. I help guide them and simplify the process. Some project partners are attracted to many styles and want help editing. Some project partners have an established style and want the added layer of a designer’s eye and a partner in design to take them to the next phase of the evolution of their style.

I also love the challenge of styling a shelving system. Even the most adept DIY styler can find themselves quickly overwhelmed by a bookshelf or large built-in system. It’s a curated home talent of mine to make a shelf beautiful, interesting, and reflective of a home’s style. And I always have curated home goodies on hand for a polished, customized, and eclectic feel.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I think anyone who hires me for a project is a collaborator and deserves inspiration credit. I tell most project partners that I will get them 90% of the way visually so they can customize.

The best outcome I can get from a project is when someone is inspired by me and continues the process of customizing their space after I’ve moved on. I love revisiting a project and seeing something new or rearranged in an even better way! I also have to give credit to the local shops and antique buyers that give me so many wonderful design elements to incorporate.

I also draw so much creative inspiration from those I follow on Instagram and Pinterest. There is so much creativity out there!
