Check Out James Meierotto’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Meierotto.

Hi James, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I have a degree in photography for UCM/CMSU and interned and started my career in 2004/2005 in the KC advertising market. I worked at a local well-known studio and transitioned from assistant to photographer.

I have been on my own since 2009 and have segwayed into shooting videos for commercials for the other part of my time. My work has taken me all over the world and United States in lots of different really interesting experiences.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth. It is a creative entrepreneurial path and one that there are not dozens of opportunities for. I have sacrificed and had legal non-compete clauses with previous employers. This caused me to have to move to the west coast for 3 years before returning to KC.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
James believes that the most captivating stories are found at the moment others hurry past. His sought-after ability to slow downtime with the lens allows him to relate to the world in a more meaningful way. As a result, James tells visual narratives through the grit, elegance, irony, and whimsy of life.

James travels the country as a photographer, director, and DP to create compelling stories for clients ranging from Firestone, NTB, Coca-Cola, Kellogg’s to LG and US Bank. He authentically connects clients with their audience with creativity and a straightforward, genuine approach to collaboration and communication.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice is to find someone that inspires you and ask how you can get involved in helping them or being in their orbit. When given the opportunity, observe, ask good questions, and work really smart and hard.

When you are young, say yes to networking and to opportunities. Meet people, volunteer, go out amongst peers and clubs within your industry.
