Check Out Jaime Sweeney’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Sweeney.

Hi Jaime, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into photography is one I’m incredibly grateful for. I received my first camera at 15 years old as a Christmas gift after becoming deeply involved in the photography project through 4-H. I was active in several projects within the organization, but photography quickly became my favorite.

In high school, I completed my senior project on livestock photography, which is really where it all began. I grew up raising goats and cattle, so I started by photographing the animals I cared for every day. That experience helped me see how meaningful it is to capture hard work, personality, and moments that matter.

About a month after graduating high school, I officially started my business, originally called Midwestern Photography, which is now known as Midwestern Photography by Jaime. Over the past nine years, I’ve learned so much, grown creatively, and built incredible connections through my work. During that time, I also earned my bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science while continuing to pursue photography on the side.

Like many people after college, I went through a season of trying to figure out my path. Even when I wasn’t fully focused on growing my business, I always found myself coming back to photography. In July 2025, I made the decision to fully commit to my dream. I rebranded, began building a stronger community, and pushed myself to try new things. I’m so thankful that photography is now my full-time career, alongside working part-time as a receptionist at a veterinary hospital.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think everyone’s journey looks a little different, and that’s part of what makes this career so meaningful. When I first started my photography business, things felt fairly smooth. I grew up in a very small town, and having a close-knit community meant I already knew many of the people who became my first clients. I built much of my early business in my hometown of Bendena, Kansas, in Doniphan County, and I’ll always be grateful for the support I received there.

About two years ago, I moved to Linwood, where my husband is from. Even though it was only about an hour south, relocating my business came with new challenges. I had to step outside my comfort zone, meet new people, and rebuild my client base in a different community. That season pushed me to grow not only as a business owner but also personally. Over time, I’ve connected with so many amazing new clients in this area, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see my business continue to grow in a new place.

Being based here has also opened the door to more travel opportunities, allowing me to serve clients in new locations and expand my reach even further. It’s been exciting to see how stepping outside my comfort zone has led to growth not just locally, but beyond what I originally imagined.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in weddings, couples, families, and seniors, while always staying open to trying new things and offering a variety of photography experiences. My style is warm and soft with touches of bold, moody tones, while still bringing light and brightness to everyday moments. I especially love western or country-inspired sessions and can never pass up a beautiful sunset.

One of my biggest priorities is making people feel comfortable in front of the camera. Even when someone says, “I’m so awkward,” I want them to trust that I’ll guide them through the entire session. I always tell clients that I’ve felt awkward in front of the camera myself, which helps me understand how vulnerable it can feel. My goal is for sessions to be relaxed and fun so that I can capture people as they truly are in this season of life.

Through all the changes and growth in my journey, I’m most proud of how much I’ve continued to evolve while staying true to what matters most — my clients and their experience. I believe my unique perspective, combined with a strong focus on connection and comfort, is what truly sets my work apart.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If there’s one thing I’d want readers to take away, it’s that it’s never too late to go after something that’s been on your heart. My journey with photography didn’t follow a perfectly straight path, but every step led me to where I’m meant to be. I’ve learned that growth often comes from stepping outside your comfort zone and trusting yourself even when things feel uncertain.

I’m so grateful for every client who trusts me to capture their memories and milestones. Being invited into such meaningful moments is something I never take for granted. At the end of the day, photography is about connection, and I feel incredibly lucky to do work that allows me to celebrate people, their stories, and the season of life they’re in.
