Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Brown.
Hi Jacob, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Music has been a part of Jacob Brown’s life from the very beginning. Raised by a talented family of singers in the heart of Jamaica, Queens, New York, deep in the 40 Projects, he was surrounded by music, culture, and creativity from an early age. Inspired by his family’s passion and talent, Jacob began singing at just 7 years old, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to his craft. What began as a love for singing quickly evolved into a dedication to songwriting, music production, audio engineering, and artist development.
As his experience grew, Jacob relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where he established himself as a recording and mixing engineer while becoming a member of the music collective New Level. During this time, he collaborated with local artists, sharpened his technical abilities, and gained valuable experience in both the creative and business sides of the music industry.
Driven by a vision to create opportunities for independent artists, Jacob founded Sound Rite Studios, providing professional recording, production, mixing, and engineering services. He also created Only Da Trill (ODT), a close-knit collective built on authenticity, creativity, and supporting emerging talent.
Performing as an independent recording artist while producing and engineering under the name JLee on Da Track, Jacob has independently written, produced, recorded, mixed, and engineered multiple music projects. His ability to oversee every stage of the creative process has helped him develop a distinctive sound and earn recognition as a versatile artist, producer, and engineer.
To continue expanding his vision, Jacob relocated to Arizona, where he is focused on growing his team, building meaningful industry relationships, and taking his career to the next level. His mission is to create music that resonates with audiences, inspire fellow independent artists, and build a lasting legacy through both his artistry and technical expertise.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been far from easy, but every challenge has strengthened my passion and determination. Growing up in Jamaica, Queens, I witnessed firsthand that success isn’t guaranteed—it has to be earned through consistency, sacrifice, and resilience.
Throughout my journey, I’ve faced financial obstacles, limited resources, and the challenge of building a name independently without the backing of a major label or large team. There were countless late nights balancing work, recording sessions, engineering projects, and investing my own time and money into my music and studio. As an independent artist, producer, and engineer, I’ve had to wear every hat—from creating the music and producing records to marketing, networking, and managing the business.
Relocating from Kansas City to Arizona meant leaving behind a network I had spent years building and starting over in a completely new market. While it was a difficult decision, I viewed it as an opportunity to grow, expand my reach, and challenge myself to build something even greater.
Despite the setbacks, I never allowed obstacles to define me. Every challenge became motivation to improve my craft, strengthen my faith, and continue building my brand. Those experiences have shaped me into not only a better artist, but also a leader, entrepreneur, and mentor who understands that success is built through perseverance, discipline, and an unwavering belief in your vision. Today, I continue to push forward with the same passion I had when I first started singing at seven years old, knowing that every obstacle has prepared me for the opportunities ahead.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an independent recording artist, songwriter, producer, and audio engineer who believes that purpose is built through perseverance. Music has never been just a career goal for me—it’s been a way to turn life’s challenges into something meaningful. Every setback I’ve faced has strengthened my mindset, deepened my faith, and taught me that success isn’t measured by how quickly you arrive, but by your willingness to keep moving forward when the path isn’t easy.
As a father, my greatest motivation extends far beyond my own success. I’m working to transform my passion into a sustainable source of income not only to provide for my family today, but to create generational wealth and opportunities that can outlive me. I want my children to see firsthand what discipline, consistency, and faith can accomplish. If any of them choose to pursue music or a creative path, I hope to one day produce, mentor, and build alongside them—not because they have to follow in my footsteps, but because they’ll have the freedom to choose their own path with a stronger foundation than I had.
I’ve learned that resilience is one of the most valuable assets a person can have. The obstacles I’ve faced have taught me patience, humility, adaptability, and the importance of betting on myself even when the odds weren’t in my favor. Those experiences have shaped not only the artist and engineer I am today, but also the man and father I’m striving to become.
My goal isn’t simply to make great music—it’s to build a lasting legacy. I want every song, every project, and every opportunity to reflect excellence, integrity, and purpose while creating pathways for others who come after me. Success, to me, means proving that with faith, determination, and relentless work, it’s possible to change the trajectory of your family’s future.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that growth comes from consistency, not perfection. Challenges and setbacks have taught me to stay adaptable, keep learning, and focus on steady progress rather than immediate results.
