Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Young.
Hi Ian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up under the influence of my father, fine art master, Michael Young. I didn’t start studying art seriously under 22. In 2012, I build my first website and started doing shows in downtown Kansas City.
In 2017, I was commissioned to do an entire series of paintings for one collector, based on the 1932 Sci-Fi novel Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley. In 2018, I did my first featured show in Southern California and had a 40-second segment about my artwork air on the KTLA Channel 5 Los Angeles News. I am currently working on a new series, “The History Of Technology”.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Sales are always up and down, creating and selling art for a living is not for everybody. The biggest struggle is always having enough guaranteed art sales and prepaid art projects lined up to keep going without having to take on any non-art-related work.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in highly detailed, yet vibrant and colorful acrylic paintings. I specifically am quite good at perspective, design, color balance, and utilizing symbolism and metaphor.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Never stop promoting yourself, no matter how many people it upsets or offends.
