Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Hughes.
Hi Erin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I only started this chapter of my journey in January of 2022. I was a Certified Nurse Aide for 15 years when my husband and I moved to Kansas City. I ended up becoming a freight broker and was in sales for 8yrs. During that time, I started a spiritual journey that continued evolving. I had a passion for my corporate job when it first started, but the longer I was there, the more apparent it was that this was not my purpose in life.
Fast forward to Christmas 2021- my whole family had covid. While my family all started to improve, I seemed to have gotten worse. I rang in the new year with an ambulance ride to the hospital. My oxygen saturation was 84%, and I was having a hard time breathing. I was put in the hospital for 10 days. I declined to the point where I was on 15 liters of oxygen, and there was talk about intubation if I got any worse. I remember gasping for air, and nothing would come. I couldn’t see my family, and I could reflect on my life and what was important to me. I called my husband and told him I couldn’t continue to live my life the way I was any longer. I had to follow my purpose, and I wanted to get certified as a reiki practitioner. He was supportive, and when I got out of the hospital, I took steps to get my Reiki practitioner license and opened up a very small office where I worked part-time while still maintaining my corporate job.
As I settled into my office, the owner of the coffee shop in my building came in and introduced herself. She also helped manage the property and was curious about what I did. I explained to her that I was a sound healing, reiki practitioner. I explained that I used reiki, tuning forks, and singing bowls to help align and move energy. She said, “I should send my dad to see you. You’d be right up his alley.” I told her well, of course, she should! She then told me how her dad drove to St. Louis to get into some “egg thingy.” She continued telling me that her dad had horrible sciatica and had tried everything. He drove to St. Luis, got into this sound and light therapy thing shaped like an egg, got out, and felt like a million bucks! Very intriguing. So naturally, when she walked away, I was like, what is this, “egg-thingy”? I, of course, googled it and found the Harmonic Egg. When I saw it, I instantly knew it was my purpose! My husband’s office was in the same building, so I ran down the hall and said, “Honey, look at this. I have to have one!” He looked at me like I was crazy, nothing out of the ordinary. LOL, He calmly and lovingly told me that I needed to establish myself and my clientele on my new venture first, and we could talk about it 5-10 years down the road.
I had never been so sure of anything (other than saying I do to my husband, of course) that I needed to bring this technology to the KC area! In August, my husband, the Executive Director of Brother’s In Blue Re-entry, a Christian-based non-profit working inside the Kansas men’s and women’s prisons, gave me an idea. He wanted us to invest in a truck and start a logistics company, with me acting as a dispatcher. His intent was not only to provide for our family but also to be someday able to help support the program he so lovingly is a part of. I had no desire to continue in the logistics world. I was following my spiritual path, and that did not include freight. So, I brought the Harmonic Egg to his attention again. If he was willing to invest in a logistics company, what if we invested in something that could make a difference in people’s lives that I was passionate about?
We set things in motion with hope, faith, and a business plan. We found an office that needed work. A dear friend and I were able to build out the space. From building walls to laying carpet and cutting each ceiling tile, we made the space into a warm and welcoming wellness center. I received my Harmonic Egg a week earlier than expected on my birthday; what a fantastic gift to see all the labor of love come together! I had a soft opening in December, and then I started and was able to focus on growing my business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been relatively smooth so far?
Renovations of the office were only sometimes as planned. 🙂 There were a lot of late nights away from my family and reminders that this was a labor of love and that I was building something unique! Aside from the office space and time away from my family to get the ball rolling, educating people about the Harmonic Egg and its benefits has not been easy. Sound and light therapy have been around for thousands of years, but the new take on it with the Harmonic Egg was only patented in 2020. Getting the word out to the masses has been challenging, especially for a new business.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am intuitive, compassionate, and a listener. It is important to hold space for people as they go on their life journey. Something must be said about taking the time to listen and validate a person’s experiences and feelings. I make everyone feel welcome with no judgment. Being vulnerable is hard, and I have created an environment for people to feel emotionally and energetically supported to allow growth and healing in all capacities.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I don’t know that I have a “favorite,” but growing up, my family was always close and doing things together. We were very involved with dance and theater. Singing, dancing, and laughing with my family was and still is a massive part of my life.
