Check Out Emily Ellis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Ellis.

Hi Emily, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started making tumblers for fun when I realized how hard it was as a working mom to have time for myself. I was struggling with post-partum depression, and I needed a way to relax, let-go, and just soak in life. I found that Tumblers were not only fun to make, but people love them! I was never anticipating my love of crafting to turn into something that could benefit other people. I had friends, family, and complete strangers reaching out for me to make them a cup! Who knew?! Having something personal, something one-of-a-kind is truly important, and now you can have that very thing on the go! After a while of realizing how much fun I was having, I decided to expand. I started a whole apparel side of this business and it took off so fast! I was able to fill a need locally for various business, and especially small local businesses! Then, I branched out even further and decided to start branding. Now, I even have my own line of graphic t-shirts! I never could have imagined that I could step away from corporate America, and be home with my kids, and still make a difference in our community and my families lives! It’s been the biggest blessing and one of the best decisions I’ve made!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This was not easy. There are so many obstacles, so many different things that I had to learn. I had to step completely out of my comfort zone to put myself out there. I am not tech-savvy and that was one of the hardest things to figure out. Creating a website from scratch, working on SEO, and all the background things that, before being a business owner, I hadn’t even heard of before! Once I started getting the flow of the “behind the scenes” processes, and techniques I got so much more comfortable! I think with any business, there will be obstacles and struggles, and successful businesses push through and eventually lead the way! I am following in the footsteps of some of my greatest inspirations and learning from the best entrepreneurs I know! The absolute best decision I made was following a business coach to help teach me all the things about running an online business! Huge shout out to Jennifer Allwood, another Kansas City Entrepreneur!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make Custom Tumblers, T-Shirts and Apparel. I work with Epoxy Resin to make my tumblers. Locally, I am known for making T-Shirts for the small businesses here. I also make lots of tumblers for the community as well. I recently started making tumblers for TikTok and, I did not expect that to become as successful as it did! Lots of people like watching creators on TikTok and the process of art! Me included. I loved watching people make paintings, and clothing, so I decided to film my tumblers and shirts! People loved it! I think because I’m different, and I have my own process, and it’s something new to watch! I love that people come to me for their crazy, complex or even difficult ideas and I do everything I can to bring them to life! That’s the best part! I am my best when I’m given a good challenge, and I love the difficult tumblers!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I would absolutely love nothing more than to teach other people to start a tumbler business! I have had so many people over the past year ask me questions and “pick my brain” if you will, over tumblers, shirts, and the list goes on! I think there is a great opportunity for people out there, and they just need someone to show the ropes and the little details you cannot find on YouTube or TikTok. Those small details are important! I learned the hard way, and I think it would be great to help others avoid at least some of the mistakes I learned along the way!
