Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Wilson.
Hi Devin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a passion for photography and creating lasting moments for others! Upon graduation, at Baker University my career path took a drastic turn away from Mass Media, which always left an empty void that I wanted to fill.
In 2017, I finally decided that I needed to do something about it and started my own photography brand: You1st Media. I wanted to focus on putting the client first by delivering not only an exceptional experience but also content at an affordable price.
My first big breakthrough was having one of my photos featured on Express Men’s fashion platforms after shooting with a good friend Alex Baird. Ever since then things have taken off for me! I specialize in lifestyle photography, but I enjoy shooting anything that clients request!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel as though every new start-up has struggled along the way.
At first, I struggled with Cliental for the photography market is very saturated as is. I started doing a lot of free sessions with a good friend and mentor of mine Jordan Criddle. I was able to learn structure and appeal by marketing myself to the public and really creating a buzz.
In my opinion with photography, the pricing structure is everything, and with this being something I enjoy I feel as though my competitive pricing allows me to combat some of those struggles with getting noticed.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I feel as though my specialty is with lifestyle photography or as a call “walk and shoot” sessions. Completely unscripted and searching for new creative locations to get the perfect shot. This makes things feel very seamless and allows me to really focus on the creativity aspect.
As of today, I am more happy and proud of my clientele. Your clients are everything and for me, I have a tight-knit group that will always return to me for photos while also speaking highly of my work thus gaining me a lot of referrals with great people.
I feel like my personality really sets me apart from other photographers. For me, it isn’t about the highest dollar, but instead having the ability to deliver something to individuals that they will always remember. A lot of people cannot afford at times high prices photography sessions and I feel as though everyone should have the opportunity to receive great quality work to remember and display.
