Today we’d like to introduce you to Deana Poston-Seibold.
Hi Deana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Over 35 years ago a good friend of mine’s mom wanted to know if I would like to become and insurance agent and share and agency with her. I took all of the necessary classes to become an agent, in auto, property, life and health insurance. When I took the tests, I took the licensing test to become a broker which gave me the ability to write more policies at the time and passed. Now there is no difference. My friend’s mom and I went and spoke with the state director of American Family. American Family does not allow partnerships, So I decided to start my own agency. The state director arranged for me to have an interview with a district manager and was hired. I was able to share and office with an agent that had been business for 2 years, so I was able to split the costs. The office is located in Platte County Missouri which is where I was raised, so I knew a lot of residents
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Challenges go up and down depending on how the rates go up and down. Right now, the insurance field is tight, but it will smooth out hopefully soon.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have worked multiple different professions. In high school I was very involved with art. When I graduated my first job out of high school, started out grooming dogs. I feel like this helped me work with clients pleasing owners in their wants in how their dogs looked I definitely enjoyed seeing my dogs. The owner of the salon had to quit due to her health. I started looking for another job with my art background and ended up taking a job with a local newspaper selling advertising that I also had to create the ads. I feel as if I was selling intangible products with the advertising. This rolled right into selling intangible items again. I was selling advertising, then went selling insurance coverage. Neither item was something you can physically hold what they do. I am proud of the fact that I treat my clients as friends and family. And what sets me apart is the fact I grew up her in Platte County, so even though the population has grown, I still know a lot of people or their family. I tell everyone that they are friends of family coming through my door.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Treat people like you want to e treated.
