Check Out Dave Noodlez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Noodlez.

Hi Dave, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I grew up in Staten Island, New York in a little neighborhood called Westerleigh. Creating was always something I really enjoyed. I loved to write and draw. At the age of 8, I saw an ad in our newspaper from Columbia House to get 8 CDs for a penny. I filled it out, asked my dad for a stamp, and sent it in. After I got those CD’s I never stopped digging for sounds. My parents would always buy me the latest Michael Jackson album. As I started to reach double digits in age, I had to convince them that buying me CDs with the PARENTAL ADVISORY sticker wouldn’t turn me into a bad kid. {laughs} I’ve been a music lover, concertgoer, and fan ever since. To this day I buy an album on the 8th of every month to support my favorite artists.

Music always connected with me. I tried to find ways to be involved with it whether it was writing songs, making beats, creating mix CDs, throwing parties, or DJing. During college, I created my first album out of my passion and love for it. I produced all the beats, wrote all the tracks, and had my best friend Paul Marz and brother Danny on some records. It was my first real dream come true.

Once I got a feeling for what it was like to follow dreams I continued to reach for more dreams. My second dream was to create a clothing brand. In 2008 while attending a screenprinting workshop, I printed the first design I created on Photoshop. It was a stereo boombox with the word Type next to it. The rest is history. Thirteen years later we’ve shipped merch to every part of the world, collaborated with 100’s of people, and helped 100’s with their dreams.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve taken a lot of L’s.

I live by the phrase “Don’t stop dreaming”. No matter what happens I know I have to get up and find a way to make it happen.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My days are centered on creating and broken up into 3 parts.  The first part is creating new designs. I challenge myself every day to come up with something new.  This way I’m always looking for inspiration wherever I go. The second part is producing products. This is the humbling part of what I do. This involves labor, math, science, and attention to detail. The last part is planning new creations. It involves meetings, phone calls, and emails with collaborators focusing on coming up with collaborative projects.

I am blessed to be able to run my brand full-time. I am also grateful to offer workshops in entrepreneurship, writing, and design to kids all across New York City.

I am “Not like the other kids” because no matter what I always keep dreaming. I also believe in people. I truly care about people’s dreams and finding ways to make them a reality.

How do you think about happiness?
Helping others, music, knowing my family is good, seeing my lady enjoy a dinner I cooked & bringing people together are some of the things that make me happy.
