Check Out Crystal Higdon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Higdon

Hi Crystal, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Forgive me, I am not a writer or have a talent for words..

My story starts with…

I have been singing all of my life starting as a young girl with my Walkman and headphones to singing at the top of my lungs acapella in the car and scaring the wits out of my dad while he was driving. From k‐12th grade I was in music classes and choir. I also did ballet, tap, and jazz classes early to middle school days.
Early 20s I met Jessie Root (my soon to be love of my life and co-owner of our circus stunt show “The Schitt Show”) but we wouldn’t met again until my mid to late 20s.
From there I learned to be a carpenters apprentice from my step dad and found a love of building.
Next my mid 20s I ran away with the Circus to shovel poo and hold hoops for llamas, cats and goats to jump through after a long line of abusive boyfriends caused me to hit the road in a hurry. Still trying to find myself and my way in life.
Finally I met (again) the love of my life and together we went down a long road of struggle and hardships; losing everything and becoming homeless. But we always dreamt of having our own show and we knew we could call it “The Schitt Show”.
Knowing we needing to change our life we moved to the KC area and there in 2020 our show was born out in Buckner, MO at “Dark Nightmares Haunted Attraction” which is a Haunted 1.3 mile trail of family friendly scares and fun.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely pushing a rock up a hill type of struggles.
But equally some of my most wonderful times and memories.
Being homeless is a hardship all it’s own but gives you such confidence when you really have to put your mind to a situation to solve it.
I will always remember us in the dead of winter needing a bath, and slow roasting a 50 gallon barrel of water over a fire for 3 hrs. And finally when we have gotten it all hot and moved to our outside tub it began to snow. It was something magical.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer and stunt woman in a vaudeville style circus stunt show called “The Schitt Show”

I am the star vocalist of our show, I walk on glass, lay on beds of nails, and do stunts with electricity. I also am a palm and tarot card reader. I do dream interpretations and spells to order such as healing or happy ones.

I am known for being The CAP’N in our show.

I am proud of me! Truthfully, I feel as though I went to hell and back just to get here and I am proud of my journey and Jessie’s (love of my life) as well because I couldn’t have done it without him.

I think not only my path that I have taken but also we are the only traveling kc based circus stunt show.

What’s next?
Our future plans include taking our show nation wide with a muti state tour. We would love to aquire more actors and stunt performers in our show. The big dream is to be an actual stand alone traveling circus.
