Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne & Colton Lowe.
Hi Cheyenne & Colton, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We are full-time wedding and elopement photographers, and together we make up Cheyenne Lowe Photos. We are a husband + wife team, and count it a privilege that we get to be business partners as well as life partners. We were married in 2016 and established this company in 2017. Growing up, Cheyenne was always creating, pursuing various art forms, and documenting life around her with a camera, which is really how this company began. After getting married, we decided that not only in our personal lives but also professionally, we were better together and could accomplish much more that way. After starting as a passion and a hobby, years of learning the trade, and people seeking us out to photograph their weddings on their own, a career was naturally born. We reside in Lawrence, KS with our two rescue pups but can often be found traveling the globe and serving clients coast to coast.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting and maintaining a sustaining, full-time company has been no small or easy task. The passion and love for it came easily, but building a brand and true business from scratch is a challenge to say the least. We’ve always said that we complement each other in our strengths and weaknesses, and that has been evident in this journey of being business partners. Cheyenne is the dreamer, the visionary, and the creative. Colton is the realist, the bookkeeper, and is good with numbers. We have found both to be incredibly necessary! Although we both have plenty of hands-on time behind the cameras, we have naturally settled into our own roles behind the scenes. It’s one thing to know how to manually work a camera and have an eye for photography, but it’s an entirely different thing to run a business and we would say that has been our hardest challenge. When is comes to business and marketing, neither one of us have a business degree, so it’s been years of trial and error, learning what works and what doesn’t, learning about the legal side of everything, finances, advertising, administration, etc. We’ve had to learn how to prioritize our marriage over our business and how to have boundaries with our time. We have not always seen eye to eye on every detail, but overall it has strengthened our relationship and been an adventure!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We believe that each person has a story to be told and preserved and that imagery has such a beautiful way of doing so. The starting of this company really came from a place of wanting to serve and love people well and the desire to document raw, honest, authentic human connection. From our photos themselves to our interaction with our clients, we aim for outside the box and have a non-traditional, documentary approach. We want to capture people naturally in their vibe and element and never stiff poses. We want our images to be timeless, warm, and to draw you into the story. Running this company allows us to have front row seats and intimately witness people’s most cherished moments of life, and to know that one day our clients will show our work to their grandkids is such a joy to us! We strive to combine professionalism and creativity and to give our clients the best experience from start to finish.
Although we love and have a lot of experience photographing various different types of sessions from portraits, to family, to product/branding, the heart of our company is really in couples and weddings and we are passionate about seeing marriage around us thrive. Our own story is living proof that there is nothing that can’t be redeemed, and we want to be a source of encouragement for our clients before their wedding day, on the wedding day, and after as they navigate life together as one union. Jesus is the forefront of our lives and our company, and we want all who work with us to encounter his love.
Any big plans?
We love having dreaming/planning meetings monthly and are so excited for what is to come! In the near future, we plan to expand our team by hiring some part-time assistants, to broaden our client base and travel to destination jobs more often, and to become a resource for aspiring photographers wanting to learn more about the industry. Stay tuned!
