Check Out Chelsea Lane’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Lane.

Chelsea Lane

Hi Chelsea, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Of course! I founded The Nurtured Path officially in 2021 after a few years of dreaming about it! I was already doing a lot of the work I do with The Nurtured Path, but it gave me a home for all of it with many ideas in the pipeline to expand & grow! I have been working with families and children for nearly 15 years, the work and the needs have changed so much over the past decade, but one thing that I have seen remain the same is parents wanting good things for their kids. Almost every time my workshops, services, or time with families would conclude, families would be sad, share such touching words of gratitude, or ask how we could continue working together.I knew I had something unique and that my passion for connecting and empowering families with my tools and strategies is needed in the world more than ever today, so I decided to create the business. I was fortunate to have people in my network and community right away, referring families and organizations to me. It is really such an honor when someone thinks I can help people they care about. I will never forget sending my first invoice! Being an entrepreneur was not something I saw in my future, but it all just made sense in my professional and personal life, and I am so proud of myself for going for it! I look forward to expanding the amount of services I can provide. I am really just getting started!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the most complex parts for me has been the vulnerability of putting myself out there and battling imposter syndrome. Putting The Nurtured Path brand together was so exciting, and I’m so proud of it, but it also felt scary. It seemed safer to let organizations invite me to speak, ask If I could help a family, or respond to DM’s of people that needed some support with a parenting battle. But putting myself out there, discussing rates and services, was a different ball game, and I still struggle with it! There are many excellent resources, educated humans, online platforms, etc. You can get in your head about what you have to offer and if it is worth people’s time and money!

Another factor that plays into imposter syndrome is social media! To have a successful brand translates into having a successful social media platform. I was excited to start putting that out into the universe, but it has been a struggle for me! Deep down, it’s also rooted in fear, but it’s also very time-consuming and never feels as important as the work  and people in front of me. I have not stressed too much about social media because I have many things happening with The Nurtured Path in “real life,” helping many humans and growing my in-person networks, but it’s an area I know I need to spend time developing & I look forward to getting more creative with it. I am going to do that this year! Follow along and see!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work with any human wanting to be empowered to break generational cycles and lead their children, family, classroom, organization, or staff on a nurtured path. A path that prioritizes connected relationships, healthy communication, and regulated emotions and focuses on skill building rather than shaming shortcomings or repeating hurtful cycles that don’t feel good to us. Maybe you’re already doing this work and just need support to meet you where you are, or maybe you’re not even close, but you’d like to start. I can help! We can work together through individual consulting/coaching and group coaching. You can join a workshop that’s already happening, or we can work together to tailor workshops or training to your organization’s needs!

I am known for being a positive light & someone who is constantly learning and growing to be the best support I can be for others. My friends often joke about me being the “course queen” because I am always signed up for a workshop, taking a class, reading, or listening to a podcast about this work. I am passionate about my work being trauma-informed, relatable, and practical to make shifts that will lead to big changes.

I have a national certification as a Family Development Coach, but I also have a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education; I am a Missouri First Steps Therapist & a Family Advocate for a district Head Start program. I have experience working with families & staff with various backgrounds and unique needs. I have thousands of hours of professional development, training & have worked with some of the most inspirational leaders in the field. My favorite and most influential trainer? My 4-year-old son.

I am most proud of a partnership with The Nurtured Path & Clay County Family Court Programs. We are working together to provide workshops for girls (Girls Circle), teenagers (self-regulation), and parents (topics vary), as well as training and support for their staff for de-escalation and trauma-informed care. Working with them and seeing their desire to implement these proactive approaches to supporting their clients is an honor. All of these opportunities are FREE for residents of Clay County; it brings me immense joy to be able to put together high-quality programming that is accessible & affordable, as that is often a barrier to parents and families wanting help.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising to people I have worked with professionally is the obstacles I have experienced throughout life. I think people think because I feel so passionate about strong families, healthy relationships, and raising resilient kids, I must’ve had some perfect experiences that I want to share with others. I have  actually experienced great loss from a young age; my parents, grandparents & other loved ones. I grew up with a turbulent and traumatic step-parent relationship. I have experienced the impact of untreated adult mental health disorders & suffered in the destructive path of substance abuse from those I love. At the same time, I had many privileged experiences, a close bond with my sister, loving family members, wonderful friendships, mentors, relationships, etc.   I have used all these experiences to get a clear vision of what I want for my life, my son, and what I hope for all children & families to experience, no matter the circumstance. It is an honor to share my growth, knowledge, and experience to connect with families, staff, and children and lead them to a path full of nurturing, empathy, and compassion. Just because I’ve lived it, doesn’t mean I have to pass it on & you don’t either.
