Check Out Charlette Wafer’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlette Wafer.

Hi Charlette, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember, my soul has thirst for a flame, not my own, and after my marriage of 13 years ended in divorce six years ago, I had a heart conversion. My divorce was a traumatic experience. When I said I do, it was for death do us part, but that wasn’t my narrative.

The divorce shattered my heart, but when I confronted my anger for being a discarded wife in my book, Flint to Flame, 2019, my heart healed.

However, when the pandemic hit in 2020, I found myself more in the valley than the mountaintop. Therefore, at the start of the new year, I re-launched Ignited Pens, a safe, service-based community to help inspire, motivate, and encourage people through writing classes and workshops.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. On the way, I’ve faced shame from not only being divorced but for having to re-launch Ignited Pens. Writing is a calling for me. Since high school, I have experienced writing blocks and inner creative battles that Steven Pressfield calls resistance in his book The War of Art. These blocks and battles heighten immediately after the divorce that Ignited Pens went on a hiatus for four years. But I remembered Bible scriptures stating that I am an overcomer and that my testimony can strengthen other people facing any loss or resistance, so I re-launched Ignited Pens.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a veteran educator, a writing consultant, conference speaker, and radio host who loves to celebrate writing. My mantra is, “The Fire to Write is Within You; Ignite it!” When I am not coaching other teachers to strengthen their craft or cultivating writers of all ages through my one-on-one coaching, writing classes, and workshops, I am baking cupcakes.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I have several resources that help me do my best in life. The first is The YouVersion App. It creates biblically-centered and relevant experiences that help me and others seek God every day. The next is Becoming the One Podcast by The One University. It reshapes my mindset about singleness and prepares me and others for future marriage. Another resource is Blogger Archuleta Chisolm at www.archuletachislom.com. She is a phenomenal writer who helps other writers. My favorite books are The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott, You are a Writer by Jeff Goins, The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson, Relationship Goals by Michael Todd, and my very own book, Flint to Flame.
