Check Out Brooklyn Horne’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooklyn Horne.

Hi Brooklyn , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story with art began with simply loving to create as a kid. I’ve always been drawn to the arts – anything involving painting, scrapbooking, crafting, drawing, dancing singing etc. I was lucky enough to grow up in an extremely creative family – so it was fate.

In highschool, I found that watercolor became one of the ways I could slow down, be present, and spend time with The Lord in a way that felt genuine and meaningful to me. So art was always a comfort hobby for me.

Brooklyn Horne Art started as a very personal creative outlet in 2020 and slowly grew into a small business throughout 2021. It was during a tough season of life – both Covid and the loss of my stepmom. Painting gave me the ability to express what I was going through and gave me something to turn my mind towards during that time.

At the beginning of 2021, my cousin and I decided to host a pop-up market for us two and a friend of ours. We had a dream of selling our work and hosting a fun and local event for our family and friends to shop at. It turned out to be a big event – hosting over 100+ people in a coffee shop. Not only did we get a large crowd, but we made a great profit! It was a dream. This was the first moment I realized that I could actually try my hand at selling my work! Later that week, I created an website, and Etsy account and have been selling my work online ever since.

What started as a small hobby has continued to grow in ways I honestly never could have planned for myself. One of the most meaningful parts of this journey has been seeing doors open that I never expected. Being able to have my work purchased, shared, and seen by people outside of my immediate circle has been incredibly encouraging.

One of the biggest milestones was having my Floral KC artwork purchased by Warner Bros. And featured on Season 4 Episode 1 of Ted Lasso. As someone who loves both art and Kansas City, that was a pretty surreal full-circle moment for me! I’ve also had the opportunity to go on KCTV to talk about my business – such an honor to get to do!

But more than anything, I’ve learned that creating art is about so much more than making something pretty. My faith is a huge part of who I am, and I genuinely believe God gives us gifts and creativity for a reason. I’ve had seasons where I’ve questioned whether my art was “enough” or whether there was really a place for it, and God has continually reminded me that I don’t have to manufacture the outcome I just have to be faithful with what He’s given me and take the right opportunities as they come!

So today, Brooklyn Horne Art is still growing and evolving. I’ve been learning as I go, trying new things, and allowing myself to dream bigger while staying grateful for every little opportunity along the way. More than anything, I hope my work makes people feel something, whether that’s nostalgia, joy, comfort, or simply a little bit of beauty in their day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been learning how to turn something I love into a business without losing the joy of creating.

There have been seasons of slow sales, comparison, and wondering if I’m really “doing enough.” My faith has helped me through those moments by reminding me to be faithful with what I’ve been given and trust The Lord with the outcome. I’m still figuring it all out but I’ve learned to appreciate the process a lot more along the way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a watercolor/digital design artist and creative based in Kansas City, and my work is really an extension of the things I love—beauty, nostalgia, color, storytelling, and finding meaning in the little things. I’m especially drawn to florals, seasonal artwork, and warm and inviting color palettes. I love creating pieces that feel beautiful and inviting.

I’m most proud of how much Brooklyn Horne Art has grown and the opportunities that have come from simply being willing to share what I create. More than any individual accomplishment, I’m proud that I’ve been able to build something that is authentic to me. I don’t want my work to simply follow what’s popular; I want it to bring joy, warmth, and hope.

I think that’s ultimately what sets me apart. My faith is a foundational part of who I am, and I believe The Lord has uniquely created each of us with our own gifts and perspective. I want to be intentional about using what He’s given me rather than trying to create what I think an artist is “supposed” to create. My hope is that when people see my work, not only do they see creativity and beauty but that it points back to something more eternal.

What makes you happy?
A lot of things make me “happy”, but what gives me true joy is my relationship with Jesus and the people I love.

I’m happiest when I’m creating something, spending time with friends and family, traveling somewhere new, listening to good music, or simply enjoying the little things that make an ordinary day feel special. I’m a big fan of romanticizing ordinary life!

I also have a love for all things Disney, the arts, photography, and anything nostalgic and beautiful. I think I’m someone who finds a lot of joy in the details, and I’ve learned that happiness doesn’t always have to come from something big – sometimes it’s just a really good Iced Vanilla Latte from Post Coffee, a beautiful sunset, laughing with my friends, or having a quiet moment with the Lord. Those little moments remind me how good it is to simply be present and enjoy the life I’ve been given.
