Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenden Horned.
Hi Brenden, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a young boy I grew up in a small town in northern Missouri. There were a few years that I took middle/high school classes online which often allowed me a lot of time to myself without connection or time with friends. With so much time away from social experiences, I began to read. Reading turned to writing. I found comfort and consolation in writing throughout high school. In my senior year of high school I had finished a bouok and decided I wished to publish it. I began to realize that traditional publishing offered valuable resources, but took the rights to work that felt so deeply personal to me. I opted to publish the book myself. What a journey it was, learning every step of the process and meeting so many new people and businesses along the way. After publishing and speaking with other writiers, I realized that there are so many writers that do not believe they are able to publish their work. Either from lack of faith in their work or fear their rights were to be stolen. Utilizing what I learned and the connections that I made, I wanted to support authors in their journeys to publishing their work. So I started Clermont Publishing to do just that at the age of 21. It is beautiful how I have been able to see the author and literature scene in Kansas City grow to housing multiple literature events. At this time we have sponsored multiple author events, held a successful book drive to donate to local childrens organizations like Cornerstones of Care.
Now, we are currently working on creating a whole new immersive reading experience that will bring literature into the future. This experience will also allow a new form of connection to book characters that will support readers who may occasionally feel alone, just as I once did when home during online schooling.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road at all, and how beautiful is that? Within the company, we have signed new authors and lost a couple of signed authors. We have changed editors and marketers throughout our team. Especially when starting the company, there were many people who did not believe that myself or anyone could run a company that could support authors at this capacity. Additionally, we work with many authors who may need support in creating the work they originally envisioned, which is why we have a dedicated portal for our authors with support blogs that teach newer authors about the writing and publishing process. We will always continue to face challenges, but every challenge we face is a gift showing us we made it past the last challenge.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I am most proud of is the support that I am able to provide authors and the connections that were made along the way. I also speak at engagements on the importance of creativity in life and in work. Creativity stimulates your brain function in a way that allows for diverse thinking, happiness, and a healthier life. Creativity is becoming lost in the current age and it has so much power and potential.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I would love to give credit to my friends and family who have supported me and my vision anytime they have been asked. This journey has been rocky and having them there for me to support my visions and create opportunities that have lead me to where I am today. I will also acknowledge my good friend and coach James Harris Jr. for challenging me to go big and take it a step further which has excelled me into the exciting projects that I get to work on every single day.
