Check Out Anne Dezort’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anne Dezort.

Hi Anne , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always been passionate about sustainability and natural household and personal skin care products. This model blends my love for people and products perfectly. I worked in a similar concept in California for years and had to bring it to the midwest where I felt it would be the last to get into a fringe idea like refilling. My partner of 15 years Adam, works along my side as the manufacturer of our closed loop HOUSEbrand products. He makes em, I sell them through our shops. Everyone should be able to refill their SOAP. Not just West Coasters.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, I feel like it has been a smooth road. I guess with everything you can choose to look at the hard stuff and it will all have been hard- But I guess overall I look at the wins over the hard work. We had a vision and stick true to our mission to reduce single use. Which makes things a little easier. Stand by a simple mission and your work can be simple. Sure, pandemic- but we were essential so we never closed a day. Sure, construction, but we stayed here and available for our customers to refill. Sure, employees, bills, the ups and downs of the market, but at the end of the day it’s just SOAP. I’ve never lost sleep over it. Still to this day the hardest thing I have had to do running this business is making a final decision on paint colors and lighting fixtures. The rest is common sense.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have a film degree- and while a lot of folks can’t see the relationship between the two, starting a business is the exact same as making a movie. You make it all on paper first-and then execute. I just feel like I’ve been the producer, director, art department, casting agent, etc for SOAP Refill Station for the past 7 years and the script just gets sweeter and sweeter.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Stick to the mission. A decision can only be “good for business or bad for business” there is nothing that is ok for business- If it’s not obviously good for business- it’s bad for business. Simple as that.
