Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelique Foye Fletcher, LMFT, LCMFT, RPT.
Hi Angelique, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my career in behavioral health and family systems work because I’ve always been drawn to understanding how people heal and connect — especially children and families navigating stress or change. Over the years, I worked across community agencies, schools, and healthcare settings, including serving as a Behavioral Health Consultant for the City of Kansas City. Those experiences taught me how deeply environment and culture shape our mental health.
Eventually, I pursued advanced training as a Marriage and Family Therapist and became a Registered Play Therapist. That combination allowed me to merge evidence-based therapy with creativity, movement, and expressive play. After years in group practice, I founded Foye-Fletcher Therapy LLC to create a space that feels both clinical and deeply human — rooted in my four pillars: Connection, Nature, Play, and Books.
Today, I serve individuals, children, teens, couples, and families through brain-based and neurodiversity-affirming therapy, while also speaking, teaching, and creating community workshops that help people reconnect with joy and authenticity in their daily lives.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. My path took about eight years, and it included a few career shifts — some of them driven by self-doubt and lack of confidence. There were moments I questioned whether I was capable of doing this work at the level I dreamed of. I even had to take my clinical licensure exam twice, which at the time felt like I had to prove my worth all over again.
But looking back, those setbacks built resilience and clarity. Each detour taught me something about perseverance, grace, and trusting the process. I was fortunate to have incredible support from family and friends who reminded me of my purpose and helped me keep going — especially on the days when it felt impossible.
That experience now shapes how I show up for my clients — helping them see that healing and growth aren’t linear, and that confidence often comes after the courage to keep trying.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I help highly sensitive adults and parents who are raising deep-feeling kids. Many of my clients are caregivers or helpers who give so much to others that they end up feeling tired, anxious, or disconnected from themselves.
At Foye-Fletcher Therapy, I use my four pillars — Connection, Nature, Play, and Books — to help people slow down and feel more balanced. My approach combines brain science, play therapy, and attachment-based work. I help parents understand their child’s emotions while also learning how to care for their own. Sometimes that means a child-led play session, and other times it’s a walk-and-talk with a parent learning how to stay calm before responding to their child.
I’m most proud of creating a space where people feel safe and seen. Many of my clients say it’s the first time they’ve felt accepted for who they are — not as someone who needs to be “fixed,” but as someone learning new ways to care for themselves and their families.
What makes my work unique is how I blend clinical training with real-life understanding. I know what it’s like to be a sensitive person in a busy world. My goal — and the heart behind my movement, Joy Revenge — is to help people reclaim what joy feels like. It’s about choosing rest, play, and self-kindness in a world that often pushes us to keep performing. One small, intentional moment at a time, we can all begin to heal.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice is to stay curious, trust the process, and set healthy boundaries with intention. When you’re starting out, it’s easy to compare yourself to others or rush to figure everything out. But growth takes time — and sometimes the detours teach you the most.
Stay open to learning from every experience, even the hard ones. Ask questions, seek mentors, and don’t be afraid to slow down when your body or spirit needs rest. Boundaries aren’t walls — they’re ways of protecting your energy so you can keep doing the work you love without losing yourself in it.
If I could go back, I’d remind myself that worth isn’t earned through overworking or proving — it’s something you already carry.
Joy Revenge was born from that realization. It’s about reclaiming joy in a world that often celebrates burnout. Whether you’re a therapist, parent, or creative, you deserve to feel alive and at peace while doing meaningful work. Healing doesn’t happen in a straight line — it happens in those small, steady moments when you choose rest, connection, and courage anyway.
