Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali & Alex.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
What started as a post-dinner ritual between two self-proclaimed chatterboxes quickly spiraled into something more. Alex and Ali have always loved debriefing their weeks — the highs, the lows, and the “wait, did that really happen?” moments — often with a heavy dose of humor and a complete disregard for keeping things short. Friends kept telling them, “You two should start a podcast!” So they did.
Barely Brief was born out of a love of conversation, laughter, and letting life’s ridiculousness take center stage. True to its name, the show promises anything but brevity — but that’s exactly what makes it a must-listen. From spirited debates to spontaneous storytelling, Alex and Ali invite listeners to lean into the chaos, laugh a little louder, and remember that sometimes, the best conversations are the ones that refuse to stay “brief.”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, it’s been a really natural road for us. We started Barely Brief doing exactly what we already loved — talking, laughing, and sharing our week with each other — so the transition into podcasting felt less like a challenge and more like an extension of what we were already doing. Of course, we had to brush up on the basics like studio configuration and editing episodes, but even that became part of the fun. Because we’re already used to communicating openly (and not taking ourselves too seriously), creating the show has felt really seamless. It’s been one of those rare experiences where the process is just as enjoyable as the end product.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Outside of Barely Brief, we both have full-time careers in the corporate world — Ali in e-learning and Alex in *shall remain nameless*. Our professional lives are fast-paced and goal-driven, but what really sets us apart — both personally and in the way we connect with others — is our shared passion for fitness. It’s been a huge part of our relationship from the very beginning. Whether we’re hitting the gym, or trying out a new workout class together, fitness has always been our way of staying grounded, supporting each other, and building a stronger partnership.
We’re proud that we’ve found a balance between ambitious careers and prioritizing health, wellness, and connection. It’s a big reason Barely Brief feels so real and relatable — we’re two people navigating busy, but ordinary lives, finding humor in the chaos, and sharing the things that keep us going. That mix of corporate hustle, fitness-driven mindset, and genuine relationship-building is what we think sets us apart — and it’s definitely what shapes the heart of our conversations, both on and off the mic.
What makes you happy?
What makes us happiest is getting curious and diving headfirst into new experiences together. We’re the kind of couple that gets an idea for a new hobby or adventure — whether it’s travel, fitness, coffee, fashion, or wellness — and we just roll with it. We love trying new things, learning as we go, and making it a full experience. Part of the fun is that we both have this “all-in” mentality when we find something that sparks our interest.
We’re also both big research buffs — we love being in the know. Whether it’s finding the best restaurants in a new city, testing out the newest workout trend, or figuring out what’s worth splurging on in skincare, we’ll dig deep to make sure we’re making the most out of every experience. It keeps life exciting, it keeps our conversations lively, and it’s a huge part of why Barely Brief feels so dynamic — there’s always something new we’re geeking out about together.
