Check Out Alex Kirkland’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Kirkland.

Hi Alex, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I first started writing stories in my youth. Silly little things, really: Zelda and car racing and ghost invasions. I didn’t start writing stories again until my early thirties, when I left my home of seven or so years, Colorado, and the hemp farm I was working on, back to my native Kansas City. There, I knew I had a story to tell about my time in the hemp industry during its so-called “Green Rush.” After “Wolves of Hemp Street,” I wrote two more memoirs, one about my health issues, and one about working at a popular burger joint in Denver. Then, I helped my uncle with his first paranormal memoir, before writing my first fiction novel, which the later is to be released on July 8th, 2026. It’s called “Frosted Tips” and is loosely based off of my time as a thirteen-year-old in 2003.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No way! Self-publishing is a challenge and a pretty big learning curve. Not to mention, the book industry as a whole is highly competitive. The old adage “build it and they will come” doesn’t exactly work here. Writing, editing, formatting, and book cover designs (which I do all myself), are really the easiest parts. Convincing people to buy your book, especially as a self-published author, can be like pulling teeth.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m definitely on the creative side of things, although my degree is in International Business. Besides writing, I’m a book cover designer for a publishing house here in KC. I love creating designs and making authors’ visions coming to life. I’m completely self-taught in the graphic design realm, and I’m pretty pleased with that. Of course, I started out terrible. But with years of practice, I’ve gotten much better.

What’s next?
I’m looking to continue this writing journey. I have a dozen or so stories that are swimming around in my brain and I can’t just let them go to the waste side.
