Ashley Falzone of Crossroads on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Ashley Falzone shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My days are extremely packed with running my business, business meetings, raising my children, finishing my bachelor’s degree, and trying to be my best self. My days generally start around 7 am so I can get the kids off to school and go on a walk or workout. I don’t take clients till 10 AM because I value my getting ready time! Most days I am off in time to grab the kids from school and do some homework. In my evenings I usually spend my time with my kids and my boyfriend to wind down for the night. I am a very busy person and self care is a must!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Ashley Falzone, Owner of A|F SALON in the Kansas City Crossroads. We are a salon that specializes in Extensions, Curly Hair, Color, and Weddings. We do a little bit of everything, however we strive to provide services that we have mastered! A|F SALON was created during the pandemic to take the worry out of getting your hair done- although the pandemic is a thing of the past- we still hold that motto. We believe that the cliquey salon atmosphere should be a thing of the past and clients should feel valued and welcome. We provide upscale beverages and snacks, along with many other amenities for our guests. Come check us out-we’d be happy to have you!

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe mistrust, internal struggles, and insecurity are the main causes of broken bonds between people. When we cannot fully understand each other due to our differences-it’s a recipe for conflict. I believe people must be trusting and hold their boundaries strong in order to repair a broken bond fully. People will do what they’re going to do, and you must allow them to do that. If their choices do not align with the boundaries and trust you have instilled in them, then it’s time to revisit the importance of that bond and make the correct decision for that relationship moving forward.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
I am not an overly religious person, however I was raised to be Catholic. I attended all the classes every Wednesday, went to church every Sunday, and completed communion. I say all this to say that saying my prayers helped me immensely as a child, and still does to this day.
As a child, if my sister and I prayed with my father- our prayers were always answered. I think they were always answered because when you put something like a prayer into the universe- it is intentional. You have now intentionally put awareness around a situation that you’d like to see change.
Although I am not overly religious in my adult years, I do find it comforting to say my prayers when I’m feeling overwhelmed or stuck in decision or situation. I feel that it simply calms me and is a way to pay homage to my childhood while helping me with my future. Being intentional and aware is the key to making change and helping your situation.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie the hair industry tells itself is that every stylist is your competition instead of a potential friend, business partner, or mentor. The hair industry allows stylists to be so focused on tearing each other down instead of building each other up. One thing I’ve learned is that there is enough people with hair to go around, and there’s no need to be in competition with everyone.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am doing hair. It is something I enjoy doing and can easily get lost in. If I’m having a bad day myself, forcing myself to get up and go to work generally solves the issue. I love all my clients and my coworkers, so coming to the salon and doing hair is my peace!
