An Inspired Chat with Michelle Cummins of Liberty, MO

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Michelle Cummins. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Michelle, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
People often think framing is just about putting something in a frame, but at Frame It, every piece starts with a custom design created just for you. From choosing the perfect style and materials to cutting, joining, and hand-finishing, we craft everything in-house so your piece is beautifully displayed and well-protected for years to come

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the owner of Frame It, a custom picture framing studio where every design is crafted entirely in-house. We work closely with our customers to create frames that not only showcase their artwork, photos, and keepsakes, but also protect them for years to come. What makes us unique is our hands-on approach — from the initial design to the final hand-finished frame, every step is done right here in our workshop.

Recently, we’ve also opened a charming boutique inside our store, featuring unique items from local vendors. It’s all about enhancing the experience of visiting Frame It — you can drop off something to be framed, browse handmade gifts, discover local art, and leave inspired.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship with my kids has shaped how I see myself the most. They remind me every day about patience, unconditional love, and the importance of being authentic. Being a parent has taught me to be more compassionate and resilient — qualities that influence how I approach both my life and my business

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure has been the one that’s held me back the most. In the past, I hesitated to take risks because I worried about what would happen if things didn’t work out. Owning Frame It has changed that — I’ve learned that failure isn’t the end, it’s feedback. Every challenge has taught me something valuable, and often, the lessons from the failures have been the ones that moved my business forward the most

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes — what you see is what you get. I’m just as passionate, hands-on, and detail-focused with customers as I am behind the scenes. Whether I’m designing a frame, helping someone choose the perfect gift in our boutique, or chatting at a community event, I show up as my genuine self every time.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m crafting. There’s something really grounding about focusing on my hands, the materials, and the creative process. It quiets my mind and lets me be fully present — whether I’m designing a frame or working on a detail. It’s my way of slowing down and finding balance in a busy world.
