An Inspired Chat with Lukas Allnutt of North Kansas City

We recently had the chance to connect with Lukas Allnutt and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lukas, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Pretty average for the most part. I wake up and go to work, but throughout the day, I try to educate myself on social media and music marketing—looking for different ways to push myself and the band to get our music in front of people. Once I get home, I enjoy spending time with my family and cats. My fiancée and I have spent a lot of time this year planning our wedding too!

Some nights, we have practice, recording sessions, interviews, or a show. In the gaps between family, work, and band commitments, I’ve been focusing not only on marketing research and building connections within the community, but also on growing spiritually—doing Bible studies, devotionals, and attending church.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Lukas Allnutt, and I’m the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for Sentimental Creatures. We are an alternative rock band inspired by artists like The Goo Goo Dolls, Jeff Buckley, The Rolling Stones, Kings of Leon, Bruce Springsteen, The 1975, and many others. We strive to push boundaries and not be confined to just one genre, as we draw inspiration from many different styles of music.

Our band started in December 2023 with just me and our lead guitarist, Isaiah Diaz. We played a set at the original location of Sk8bar during one of its final days in St. Joseph, Missouri. That show was meant to be a farewell—not only to the venue but possibly to Isaiah as well, as he was considering opportunities in an MMA career. However, what began as a goodbye turned into a new beginning when we met Sara Verduzco. At the time, we thought she was a photographer (since she was holding a camera), but we soon found out she was a drummer!

The three of us later met up at an open mic and decided to give being a trio a shot. For the remainder of 2024, we performed together, playing shows back and forth between Kansas City and St. Joseph, eventually capping off the year with the release of a live-recorded single on all platforms: “Down – Live at The Rino 8.19.24.”

2025 began with the addition of Sara’s boyfriend (now fiancé), Caleb Lackey, who joined us as our bass player. This year has truly been special—filled with new friends, new places, and dreams coming true. Now, we’re excited to be starting the recording process for our first album!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I really wanted to have superpowers—or the Force or something—when I was a kid. But sadly, after many failed attempts, I do not. Do I still try to move things with my mind sometimes? Maybe.…

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
At the end of 2022, I had to undergo surgery to remove a thyroglossal cyst, which kicked off 2023 with a lot of unknowns, as I was on vocal rest until around mid-March. I basically had to relearn how to sing, which was pretty daunting at first. But, similar to a previous injury that affected my music—a broken finger I mentioned in my last interview—the time away from music gave me an even greater desire to come back stronger. I remember that once I really got into a groove with singing again, it felt like I had been given a whole new voice.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I try to be as genuine and authentic as possible with everyone I encounter. I’m a firm believer in the saying, “Treat others how you want to be treated,” and I always look forward to meeting new people. We really try to showcase us being 100% our true selves on our vlogs as well so it gives the viewer the perspective that they’re there with us.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely, I really try to hold myself accountable and push myself to do better at everything in my life. And I find peace in success and failure if I know I did everything I could.
