We recently had the chance to connect with Jodie Vickers and have shared our conversation below.
Jodie, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
What is most important to me…. integrity without a doubt. Having the ability to hold strong to your beliefs, treating everyone with dignity and respect and creating a legacy of truth outshines all other characteristics. Relationships, whether personal or professional require the highest levels of integrity.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, I am Jodie Vickers, Owner, designer, artist, the small but mighty creator behind Popping Party and Events.
What started out as a way to celebrate my families own milestones has grown into the opportunity to celebrate those milestones of others.
I currently offer custom balloon decor, sculpture, personalized touches, backdrops and florals, while always introducing new elements into my ever evolving portfolio. Utilizing my art background, allows me to offer a full spectrum of services and creativity to elevate any event from intimate personal celebrations, to large corporate events.
My creative mind has always been a stronghold in forming who I am, the choices I make in my life as well as how I see and interact with my environment.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Unbroken. I have had the privilege of living my life doing what I love. While the world influences us in many ways and we must adjust to what happens around us, staying centered and true to what brings me joy has been an opportunity I have been afforded through my life.
As a child, I had the freedom to fill my environment in ways that expressed my creativity. I was a member of my high school newspaper “The Budget” at Lawrence High, allowing me to explore my design interests in new, more structured ways while maintaining my personal style.
My college experiences as a cheerleader and art major fostered my innate need for self expression and risk taking, while being guided by the “rules” of the art world.
Growing onto adulthood as a wife and mother I continue to allow my creativity to lead the way. Sharing my love for the arts and creating with my children is one of my greatest joys.
It hasn’t always been the easiest path, and there have been and still are occasional struggles, I am thankful I have been able to hold tight to who I am and mostly uninfluenced by what is “expected” of me.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Embrace the ideas you have, play with them, develop them and see how far your creativity takes you.
“I am going to make everything around me beautiful- that will be my life.” Elsie de Wolfe
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Quantity over quality….. I prefer quality over quantity, I would rather create one phenomenal piece of work than an over abundance of less than my best.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Cooking. Full STOP
