We’re looking forward to introducing you to Brooke Buck. Check out our conversation below.
Brooke, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A typical summer day includes editing, managing wedding timelines, answering emails, backend tasks, dog walks, pool breaks, and shooting sessions. I’ve streamlined a lot in my business, and switching to an online calendar for booking has saved me hours of back-and-forth, truly a game-changer!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Brooke Buck, a Western Kansas native now living in KC. I’m a wedding, family, and brand photographer, and I still pinch myself that I get to create for a living. My brand is rooted in nostalgia, connection, and simple joys. I believe in slowing down, preserving real moments, and creating art that feels like home. Whether it’s a wedding day or a sunny evening with your kids in the backyard, I want my work to remind people of what matters most.
Right now, my husband and I are in the early stages of turning our backyard shed into a photography studio, and I’ve also been busy sending my prints to new shops. It’s been a full but exciting season!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
Definitely my parents. They’ve always worked incredibly hard and held my siblings and me to high standards. From early morning weights to farm chores and summer jobs, they showed us the value of grit. At some point, it shifted from “I have to do this” to “I want to do this.” They led by example, my mom with her dedication to Head Start, and my dad juggling multiple jobs and the family farm. They’re still going strong, and I keep telling them it’s time to slow down!
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me perspective. My mom is currently fighting ovarian cancer for the second time, and my husband and I are navigating infertility. Life hasn’t always been easy, but it’s shown me the importance of gratitude, resilience, and staying grounded. You don’t get to choose your circumstances, but you can choose how you move through them, and I believe that’s where strength and empathy are built.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Without a doubt, my people. I’m all in when it comes to my friends and family. They are everything to me, and I want to spend as much time with them as I can!
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
I can feel it when what used to excite me starts to feel overwhelming. If I’m spinning my wheels, falling behind, or dreading things I normally love, it’s usually a sign to pause, reassess, and either lighten my load or ask for help. Learning to recognize that has helped me protect both my creativity and my capacity.
