Inspiring Conversations with TaJae’ Carter of Serenity Esthetixs

Today we’d like to introduce you to TaJae’ Carter.

Hi TaJae’, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
All my life, I have struggled with troubled skin. I can vividly remember going to school in the 8th grade with a full-size bandaid across my face because I was hiding a humongous pimple. The funny thing is no one laughed or questioned the bandaid because they were hiding pimples, too lol. I’ve always been strangely drawn to wellness. Making people feel and look great, in addition to being somewhat of a counselor. In 2018-2019, I was feeling burnt out, and well, frankly, like a puppet. I had about four years of Medical Billing experience under my belt and about almost three years of service with the company I was working for. I often reflected on the fact that I had very little say so in my day-to-day work and my career as a whole, so I began to brainstorm.

I began to think about entrepreneurship. What kind of business could I start that I would love doing everyday but would also be profitable? I played with the idea of starting a daycare and a cleaning service but they just didn’t create a buzz in me. During this brainstorming process, I had made the decision to be more consistent with my skin’s health. I found an esthetician and went to my first professional facial and WA-LA it clicked!

I felt that “buzz” that burn of excitement, and I knew that was what I wanted to do. I wanted to become so knowledgeable that I could help myself and in the process, help others. It was literally like a switch. I enrolled in school, and the rest was history! I’m so very lucky for my business to have made the progress it has in such a short time! I’m currently still adding services as I continue my education to stay relevant on the most beneficial and current beauty services!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road definitely wasn’t smooth. I had zero guidance. No one to guide me to keep me from making mistakes, so I had to jump in head first. I initially wanted to complete one on one training with a local esthetician instead of going to school, but I was unsuccessful in finding a willing participant. I wasted about 3-4 months looking and finally decided it was time to enroll in school.

School was a huge obstacle because about 2/3 of the way, we went into quarantine. My school had to create an online learning option out of the blue, which took them some time. We did online learning for about a month and we’re back in person. It was a scary time with COVID being new and unpredictable as it was. Quarantine pushed my graduation date back by almost three months.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Serenity Esthetixs provides services to all. We take pride in a down to earth but sleek and professional service. You can come to your service knowing that you not only will leave feeling beautiful and rejuvenated, but that you will know more about your skin than when you came. I’m so very proud that I have built my business from the ground up, with no guidance. I have made some mistakes along the way but they were more than worth it for the outcome I’ve received. I meet the most amazing people from all walks of life everyday and I’m beyond grateful for that. Book your facial, body treatment, or body waxing service with Serenity Esthetixs, knowing that you are guaranteed an ethical, thorough, and relaxing experience. You won’t be disappointed!

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
During my schooling, there was a vigorous emphasis on the “scientifics” that go into esthetics, specifically communicable diseases and viruses. We were taught proper sanitation to prevent the spread of diseases/viruses like COVID-19, but it was honestly surreal when people I personally knew were severely sick. I learned that you can never be too clean or careful.
