Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Rice.
Hi Julia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Frankie and Jules started as individual home shopping parties that I worked with my mom! Hauling clothes in and out of different homes about every other day! We then opened our original location in Morse! It was an old converted home at 154th and Quivira! We renovated and grew with that community! Boutiques were very new at that point especially affordable boutiques! It was a lot of word of mouth, how we grew our clientele! In 2015 the opportunity to move to a space with better parking available and a less aging building came and we took it! At that location, we continued to update and rebrand and grow our customer base!! My mom has been working alongside me since the start!!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has for sure not been a smooth road, we have had to adapt and set different courses many times! Our main street was actually closed for construction for months like you could not access the store from the main road, you had to come in from the back road. Then most recently being in 2020 when we had to close the store due to covid lockdowns! My store manager actually took buckets of clothes home and shot and ran the online store from her basement for months, which is wild! The one good thing that came from that was the growth of our online store which is exciting for us!
As you know, we’re big fans of Frankie and Jules. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a boutique that offers affordable fashion for all! We love that moms and daughters can come shop together and both find something! We pride ourselves on our customer service and think that is why we have so many loyal customers! In 2021, we strive to provide customer service even virtually whether that be a prompt reply to an Instagram message or even a facetime call!
What matters most to you? Why?
Community! We would be nowhere without the loyal community that stands behind us! We are so grateful to all our customers who share our love of F&J and other boutiques! there is room for all small biz in our city and it’s wonderful to see a community that fiercely supports local businesses as ours does
