Today we’d like to introduce you to Jody Troyer.
Hi Jody, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our business was formally incorporated in 2017. Construction began in September 2018, and during the interim, my husband reclaimed wood from historic Kansas barns to be used throughout the building. In May 2019, our daughter and her husband became the first couple to be married in the completed barn. Today, the venue features reclaimed wood sourced from seven different barns across Kansas.
Despite launching our business just before the pandemic, we persevered through our first full year and now host an average of 24 weddings annually. We are currently expanding our offerings with the addition of on‑site cabins, which will be available for rent to both our couples and the general public.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I truly have no complaints. While the workload is significant and some expenses were unexpected, I continue to enjoy the work. Balancing the business with a full‑time job can be challenging at times, but the experience remains rewarding.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our top priority is to provide exceptional service to our couples, ensuring that their wedding day is truly the best day of their lives.
Our gambrel‑style barn sits prominently on the Kansas prairie, and it remains one of the aspects of our business I am most proud of. I often tell people, ‘I talked and my husband drew,’ because the barn truly reflects our shared vision. It turned out exactly as I had imagined, thanks to the countless hours we spent planning and refining every detail. The craftsmanship and care we put into this project are evident in every beam and board.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We are very excited about the addition of our new cabins, which are currently under construction. There will be four cabins in total, including one larger unit designed to accommodate bigger groups. This expansion, operating under the name Prairie Hideouts, LLC, will soon have its own social media presence as we continue to grow.
