Hi Denny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Den’s Tax & Accounting because I saw too many people confused, stressed, and overlooked when it came to their finances. I worked in the tax and accounting world for years, and while I learned a lot, I also saw the gaps. People were not getting the clear guidance and real care they deserved. I wanted to change that. I wanted a firm where communication is clear, work is accurate, and clients feel supported, not rushed. When I started, I was nervous like any new business owner, but I believed in doing things the right way. Slowly, clients started coming in. They referred friends, family, and other business owners, and that momentum built everything we have today. Now I get to wake up every day and help real people and real businesses move forward with confidence. That is what motivates me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely was not a smooth road in the beginning. Starting out, it was tough building trust and getting our name out there. Like most new businesses, we had moments of doubt, wondering if people would really notice the difference we were trying to make. But once clients started coming in, everything began to shift. Word of mouth and referrals became the backbone of our growth. People appreciated the personal care, fast turnaround, and accuracy we provided, and they told their friends and families about us. We expected business to slow down after tax season, but instead, we stayed busy year-round with bookkeeping, payroll, and tax planning. That was the moment we knew we were building something special that would last.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Kansas City is the sense of community. People here look out for each other, support small businesses, and value hard work. There is a real mix of local pride and midwestern hospitality that makes it easy to build meaningful relationships. The city has grown a lot over the years, yet it still feels personal and connected. I also love the food scene, the sports culture, and the balance between city life and quiet neighborhoods. What I like least is how unpredictable the weather can be and how the city sometimes lacks enough resources for small business growth compared to bigger metro areas. However, that also creates opportunity. It pushes local entrepreneurs like me to work harder and make a difference in our own community.
