Exploring Life & Business with Sabriah Brewster of Sabriah Brewster LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabriah Brewster.

Hi Sabriah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion for becoming a barber started 2008 in seventh grade. I always found myself watching different barbers cut my brother‘s hair. I became fascinated seeing the different styles and designs that you could get as well as fades. Then one day, my brother needed a haircut and I asked him if I could cut his hair. Sure enough he said yeah so I went to ask my dad if I could cut his hair and use his clippers. My dad said yeah, gave me his clippers went back in his room and closed the door. And I went back downstairs to cut my brother Sly hair. I looked up videos on YouTube on how to do a wavelength taper cut. Ever since that day, I never looked back. It was up from there. After getting the hang of cutting Sly’s hair I started cutting my friend Tre hair from school. By the time I got to high school and the word got out I started cutting more people from school people and from other schools like Raytown, Ray South, Ruskin, Paeso etc.. I played sports in high school so after softball, basketball and track practice/games I would come home and get right to it cutting hair and doing dreads. I did have dreams of playing sports in college and potentially going to the league for basketball but in reality I knew I wasn’t that good of a player to make it to the league. By senior year, I was so focused on becoming the best barber Loctician I could be while working my first job at sonic. My routine was school, hair than work and if I had time more hair after. I would be doing hair till one to two in the morning. After I graduated high school I decided to add another job and work at McDonald’s as well as sonic and cutting hair. By September 2014, I decided to go to Barber College. In order to balance and maintain barber College hours, I ended up having to quit one of my jobs so I quit sonic and continue working at McDonald’s. After I would get out of class I would go home cut hair do dreads then go to work at McDonald’s. I repeated that routine for the next 11 months all while being a full-time student at Ea La Mars Barber and Cosmetology College. I knew it was something I truly wanted to do so I had to do what I had to do to pay for school. After I graduated Barber College in 2015 I started working in my first barbershop, Smooth or Image. It was one of the best opportunities I got as a 18-year-old on a mission, but eventually I out grew the shop and was looking for better opportunities as a growing young entrepreneur. By Thanksgiving of 2015 I moved to another shop Diamond Cuts were my creativity went into a whole Nother level. Being at that shop turned me into a beast and helped me unlock different levels of my potential I didn’t even know I had. Diamond cuts molded me into something great. Unfortunately, life-changing events happened that I wish I could take back, but unfortunately I cannot. Due to enforcing circumstances, I was at my lowest and I had to stop cutting hair for a few years due to being incarcerated. From July 2018 to July 2021 I had time to rethink life and get myself together mentally. I told my brother Sly I was done cutting hair. I told him I was going to work at the post office or UPS but by the time August 2021 came. I decided God wasn’t done with me. He put the vision in me so I had to do what was in his will. By December 2021 I was back doing what I was destined to do, my passion cutting hair and doing locs. I began my new journey at For the Culture barbershop alongside my brother Sly. Honestly, if it wasn’t for Sly I would have givenup cutting hair but watching him do everything I taught him and then some motivated me to keep going and not give up and I have unfinished business in the industry. I continued working at For the Culture from December 2021 to April 2025.
In that timeframe, I cut celebrities like Funny Marco, Rashee Rice just to name a few.
In April 2025 for the culture barbershop close down so that forced me to step out of my comfort zone and open up a suite in Image Studios. With God on my side, I am a successful entrepreneur, owning Sabriah Brews LLC.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As an entrepreneur, there’s always gonna be ups and downs in business. Nothing comes overnight. You have to put in over 10,000 hours in whatever you do. On the outside looking in it’s not easy sometimes there’s more downs than there is ups but what comes down must come up. Some days you can have 0 to 5 clients and some days you can have 15 to 30 clients but at the end of the day it’s a blessing to still be able to be a success.
